olde_fashioned: (Little Dorrit -- upside down w/ text)
Alright, so having missed this when it initially aired, I know I'm late to the party, but OH MY GOODNESS this was so good!!! The ending was really confusing (bad way to wrap up the big huge secret, ppl), but Arthur was such a sweetheart and Amy angelically good--she's definitely up there with the likes of Fanny Price and Book!Margaret Hale.

Gotta love the costumes and hairstyles on the more affluent women! Towering hairdos much? ;P

RENT! )
olde_fashioned: (JE 2011 -- windswept)
Even though my initial reaction upon hearing of yet another adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's beautiful novel Jane Eyre was "NOT AGAIN!", I am very much liking the looks of the trailer and promotional images, both of which inspired me to whip up a quick batch of icons in celebratory anticipation of the film's theatrical (!!!) release in March of next year. (And Judi Dench, yay!)

''Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!--I have as much soul as you,--and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.'' )
olde_fashioned: (DD -- Gwendolen orange (summer))
More cleaning of the hard drive! ;-D

One of the very first of the many that can be credited with helping to infect me with the disease joy of costume dramas, Daniel Deronda remains one of the best, most well-acted, and definitely one of the prettiest, at least as costuming goes.

olde_fashioned: (Cranford 2 -- Erminia writes)
Here is the final batch of Cranford, and my first attempt at making icons of Return to Cranford, all from promotional stills.

While of course most everyone and their mother (no joke!) loved Cranford, some disliked the sequel. I however found it to be an excellent follow-up that included some of Gaskell's original scenes that the first lacked (the humorous situations surrounding the "cage", for instance!), and the new editions were well done.

(Did anyone else notice Margaret's "train station dress" from N&S on the character of Erminia in several scenes?) ;-D Squee!

olde_fashioned: (Cranford -- Sophy)
I was stalling this batch because I'm not finished and I wanted to include some of the sequel, Return to Cranford, but due to this month's Wild Card theme over at [livejournal.com profile] costume_awards plans have changed a bit! ;-) I'll try to get a second Cranford post up soon, but in the meantime, here's my first batch of icons from this lovely series.

Spurred on in part by this month's theme at [livejournal.com profile] costume_awards, here are ten Gone With The Wind icons from [livejournal.com profile] gwtw_stills, along with twenty from Gods & Generals (from my own screencaps of one of my favourite movies!) to round out a batch dedicated to the South. ;-D

It's been a while since I've posted any icons, and since the Wild Card theme [livejournal.com profile] costume_awards for this month is Phantom of the Opera, I thought some Phantom icons might be in order. ;-)

Most of these are from the movie (as usual), but there are a fair amount of stage icons as well. :-) I also included a couple duplicates because I couldn't decide which I liked better!

In honour of Singles Awareness Day St. Valentine's Day, and you can partially blame [livejournal.com profile] spikesbint and [livejournal.com profile] kf_creations with their recent N&S batches, for getting me in the mood. ;-)

Lots of black-and-whites and alternates, (and two wallpapers!) and I went overboard on the kiss again...just a little...*halo* But who's gonna complain?? If this scene doesn't do it for you, then you're either not human or just not romantic.

olde_fashioned: (Victorian -- Fisher's fashion)
A very random batch of various entries for [livejournal.com profile] victorianstills icontests, including the movie versions of Little Women, The Secret Garden, two different Jane Eyre adaptations, portraits of Queen Victoria, and some art ranging from work by Harrison Fisher, Kate Greenaway, and period fashion plates. Some of these are a bit older as I haven't done a big miscellaneous post in a while.

There are a few in here that are Christmas-y as well, if you're looking for those. ;-)

A batch of The Phantom of the Opera icontest entries for [livejournal.com profile] poto_stillness. The vast majority are from the movie with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler, but there are a couple stage icons as well. There is a significant number of Raoul/Christine this time, due to a couple of Raoul-centered challenges. So all you Raoul fans lucked out! ;-)

A massive batch of costume drama wallpapers, ranging from Pride & Prejudice 2005, the BBC's North & South, Jane Eyre, Emma, Lorna Doone, and 1950s fashion.

As ever, do not claim these as your own, please credit/comment if taking, and enjoy!

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that any person in possession of a computer, must be in want of a wallpaper. )
olde_fashioned: (pink -- Tissot bustle)
Twenty-six Frank Weston Benson icons, featuring turn-of-the-century beauties in romantic outdoor settings that have a very "summer-y" feel to them. I have a notecard of his Eleanor (my userpic and #1 in this batch) sitting on the dresser in my room, and I decided to look him up online. They're quite a feast for the eyes, methinks, so how could I possibly resist the temptation to icon them? ;-D

olde_fashioned: (Victorian -- Fisher's fashion)
A small batch of Victorian and Edwardian lovely ladies. The first ten are all Victorian stage actresses, including Lillie Langtry, (#2 is Millais' portrait of her), Lilian Braithwaite, Gabrielle Ray, Lillian Russell, Louise Pounds, and Sarah Bernhardt. Their specific names I've preserved in the file names (right-click to view) and last five are "Gibson girls" by Charles Dana Gibson.

More North & South! ;-D There are a few more icontest entries, and again I was trying to make most of these look fairly "gritty", but there are some that aren't. Due to some delightful new textures I've been experimenting with those, as well. ;-)

Close to four dozen icons this time, of various Regency fashion plates, as well as a lot of C.E. Brock illustrations for some of Jane Austen's novels. Also some illustrations by Hugh Thompson for Jane Eyre, various images of the Brontë sisters, and some Pride & Prejudice 2005 icontest entries. ;-)
