olde_fashioned: (18th C. -- Boucher hair)
It has been seemingly a century since I've posted any icons, and even longer since any art ones. Thus, here I am to remedy that malady, with one of my favourite eras, and one of my favourite artists from that era. I simply love Boucher's paintings (though I recommend browsing his work with some caution, as he had a penchant for nudes).

These have been on my computer since before I moved, but "unpublished" if you will, except for the few I've been using in my userpics of late. A few duplicates in the way of one painting in multiple icons hopefully won't disappoint, and brownie points to anyone who can spot the painting used on one of my favourite fashion books! ;-D

beauty is truth )
olde_fashioned: (TNW -- wanderlust)
Well, I decided to go ahead and at least get this one batch off my harddrive before it qualifies for Medicare! I had SUCH a heck of a time working with these caps (which were really hard to come by to begin with), so woefully I couldn't do precisely what I wanted with them. *pouts* ANYway, hopefully these aren't too bad, being a few months old and all... ;-)

This movie is something I highly recommend to three groups of people: 1. fans of gorgeous cinematography, locations/scenery and really authentic costumes, 2. Christian Bale fans (because he plays a really great guy in this), and 3. die-hard travel documentary enthusiasts HA HA HA. I'm only half joking there, because seriously, the first two-thirds of this movie were so boring with little-to-no dialogue besides practically every character soliloquizing, asking (their love interest? the viewer??) "Who are you?" Very pointless IMO, and apparently very Terence Malleck, or so I'm told. ;-P

The movie only really got interesting during the last third or so when it started to develop a plot besides John Smith (who I never liked anyway, as played by the ever-grubby Colin Farrell who I can't stand) and Pocahontas (very aptly performed by the lovely Q'orianka Kilcher whose correctly spelt name is courtesy of IMDb) wandering around staring at each other like a bunch of deer.

Even having said of that, it was well cast, well acted, had a lot of "sweetness" to it, certainly was quite a visual treat, and the costumes really are exquisite! Plus it's not a bad historical take on a subject that has been sadly ruined by other films, novels, and whatnot...anyway, enough of my superfluous commentary -- on to the icons!

olde_fashioned: (CSA -- rebel at heart)
Spurred on in part by this month's theme at [livejournal.com profile] costume_awards, here are ten Gone With The Wind icons from [livejournal.com profile] gwtw_stills, along with twenty from Gods & Generals (from my own screencaps of one of my favourite movies!) to round out a batch dedicated to the South. ;-D

Ta-daa! One hundred and fifty five (that's right, 155) The Dark Knight icons, posted today because one year ago the movie was released (has it really been that long?).

I think I've made enough Batman icons for a while, LOL, even though I have a few more pics on my harddrive that I haven't worked with yet, I think 55 extra over the [livejournal.com profile] icons100 claim is good enough. ;-) It's been a lot of fun!

''And here...we...go!'' )
olde_fashioned: (cowboy -- book cover roundup)
In honour of the July 4th...what, I ask you, is more intrisically American than cowboys and the Wild West? ;-D Another one of my romantic and old-fashioned propensities, I think most of us love a good western every now and then, and the timeless appeal of the masculine man with an independant spirit, skill in his craft, and an unswerving sense of morality, justice, and loyalty is undeniable, even to our modern sensibilities...perhaps even more so. ;-)

The majority of these are various stock images of men in cowboy hats on horseback, but towards the end there are several paintings by famous western artists as well, such greats as Remington, Eakins, and Russell. They are a bit older, but not too terribly bad so as not to be posted, LOL.

olde_fashioned: (TDK Batman Begins -- carry me away)
Once upon a time, I had so many The Dark Knight icons made, when I had the sudden thought of using them for an [livejournal.com profile] icons100 claim. Long story short, it just so happened that I could get my little hands on an available slot, and so here we are. ;-D

Is it obvious how much I like this movie? It's so visually appealing, and fun to make icons out of. ^-^ I've been making these on and off for quite a long while, so there are tons of different styles and "trends" of my own here, so input is very much appreciated!

olde_fashioned: (Ever After -- just breathe)
Fresh from Round 1, my entries for the Last Icon Maker Standing contest [livejournal.com profile] costumelims. ;-) A bunch of various costume-related themes are all featured in this post, including but not limited to Jane Austen quote icons, the movie Ever After, one each of Pride & Prejudice 2005, North & South, Lorna Doone, as well as a few duplicates because sometimes I made multiples before deciding which to enter. ;-)

It's been a while since I've posted any icons, and since the Wild Card theme [livejournal.com profile] costume_awards for this month is Phantom of the Opera, I thought some Phantom icons might be in order. ;-)

Most of these are from the movie (as usual), but there are a fair amount of stage icons as well. :-) I also included a couple duplicates because I couldn't decide which I liked better!

olde_fashioned: (read -- Vigee LeBrun)
A very large and very random batch of Regency and Jane Austen themed icons from various icontests. Some of these are a bit old, since I haven't posted an icontest dump in quite a while. ;-) Nearly all of the Jane Austen adaptations are represented, some art and fashion plates of the period, and there is also a Pride & Prejudice journal header and a matching friends only banner.

''The more I see of the world the more I am dissatisfied with it.'' )
olde_fashioned: (18th C. -- Romney ivory)
This is a monstrous collection of 18th century icons. I've got loads of batches that I haven't gotten around to posting, due to being busy, and this is only one of them. There are more 18th century paintings than you can shake a stick at, from so many different artists that it was quite a feat to keep track of them all! Where I couldn't discover the name of the artist/painting, I've put "unknown" next to as much information as I have.

More icons of The Dark Knight, some left over from when I was making my first batch, others made when I was in the mood for TDK (Heath Ledger's win was about the only good thing about the Oscars) and also some Batman Begins and iTunes-style humor icons thrown in. ;-) I had so much fun with all these!

Most of the others are from promo pics on sites kindly shared with me by [livejournal.com profile] visionsbeyond (thank you again!), so you can blame thank her for my succumbing to the temptation of using the hi-res pics on the two wallpapers that I made to match this grouping. ;-)

In honour of Singles Awareness Day St. Valentine's Day, and you can partially blame [livejournal.com profile] spikesbint and [livejournal.com profile] kf_creations with their recent N&S batches, for getting me in the mood. ;-)

Lots of black-and-whites and alternates, (and two wallpapers!) and I went overboard on the kiss again...just a little...*halo* But who's gonna complain?? If this scene doesn't do it for you, then you're either not human or just not romantic.

''You might guess where I've been.'' )
olde_fashioned: (18th C. -- Gainsborough pink)
This time the paintings I've iconed are all by Romney, Raeburn, Reynolds and a delightfully 18th century-style artist by the name of Charles Chaplin. ;-) Even though he lived and painted in the Victorian era, I felt his work was sufficiently "18th century-esque" to include here.

This time I did a number of men and soldiers in addition to my usual pretty ladies in pretty dresses. ;-D

olde_fashioned: (Waterhouse -- Miranda and the Tempest)
It seems an age since I've posted any icons! I have a veritable army of them cluttering up my harddrive, so I plan on getting them up and posted before they all go to waste. ;-P

John William Waterhouse is one of my favourite artists, and I decided to do something a bit different with this batch, including both plain textless icons as well as fancier ones.

olde_fashioned: (winter tree)
My Christmas batch this year is hopefully something everyone will like; I didn't have as much time as I had hoped, but oh well.

Forty icons of various stock trees and chickadees, nearly all with the theme of winter. I think trees are gorgeous and chickadees are adorable, and there is also a winter tree wallpaper with a Robert Frost poem on it for those of you who want something slightly festive and yet not overtly so. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (TDK -- Gordon watching and waiting)
What began as a small batch of promotional images and posters, rapidly evolved into a ginormous post as I found more and more iconable things, and began entering icontests over at [livejournal.com profile] tdk_still. The reason there are so very many is because I have been making them on and off ever since seeing the movie in August, so they've been collecting for a while. ;-P

I know, I know, it's not the typical thing you see me making icons of, but hey, I really like the movie, and find it very visually interesting. Thus it makes good icons. There are also two wallpapers for those of you willing to stare at a picture of Batman everyday, lol! ;-P

And yes I am aware of what comes out on DVD today...mwahahaha! ;-D

olde_fashioned: (Victorian -- Fisher's fashion)
A very random batch of various entries for [livejournal.com profile] victorianstills icontests, including the movie versions of Little Women, The Secret Garden, two different Jane Eyre adaptations, portraits of Queen Victoria, and some art ranging from work by Harrison Fisher, Kate Greenaway, and period fashion plates. Some of these are a bit older as I haven't done a big miscellaneous post in a while.

There are a few in here that are Christmas-y as well, if you're looking for those. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (1920s fashion -- a la mode)
You can blame my watching the BBC House of Elliot series for this batch. ;-P These are one of quite a few batches made a while back but which I haven't gotten around to posting them yet.

Four dozen icons and three wallpapers, all with the theme of the 1920s, mostly Gazette du Bon Ton fashion illustrations, but with some Vintage photos as well. :-) I was really aiming for an old look with these, with the "scratchy" textures and whatnot.
