How many of you would be interested in color bars (or love bars, or whatever the heck they're called!) if I made them for various subjects? I've seen so many people using them, and I'd like to know if they'd be worth my time.

Here are two samples:

ITV Northanger Abbey - NA2

1986 Northanger Abbey - NA1

These are my first, but feel free to use them if you'd like. Just comment and credit as you would an icon, please! :-)

That's great! I love the first one.

Good job! :D I take it and will credit

Thanks! ;-)

They're very nice.

I'm a bit clueless on why they are so popular though.

Thank you, and I know, I can't figure it out either. Why don't they say "I love fill-in-the-blank" rather than "_____ is love"? I don't get it.

From: [identity profile] sabrinafair2.livejournal.com
Lol...I think they mean that _____ is as good as love. Or they "feel" love when they are watching/eating/whatever-ing _____.

I think banners are a great idea... perhaps I'll see more when I get back?

*grin* I may be telling you what you already know, but they began as gay pride bars with the slogan "marriage is love" (rather then being just about gender etc). Then people began to personalize them, and finally the token rainbow colors disappeared, but the "_______ is love" slogan remained. You can still see the plain pride bars at some journals...

Oh, you're kidding me. *gagpukegag* I did NOT know that. There goes THAT idea... Thanks for telling me, though. Now I might not make them after all.

From: [identity profile] iane-grey.livejournal.com
Ah, well... that's only how they began... generally speaking, if they don't have the rainbow colors they aren't pride bars. Colorless bars show support for... anything you want, really... in this case, Northanger Abbey ;D

*hmph* Well, I have an idea to "counteract" the whole pukey gay pride concept, so I'll do that, too. ;-) *grins mischievously*

I like them, but it depends on the colorbar. If I find one that is funny or I agree with, I put it on my journal (and I have a lot).

I'd love to see some Jane Austen or classic literature or similar colorbars. I don't have enough of those.

And yes, the colorbars started out as support for gay marriage, but they went on to making fun of gay marriage or marriage in general or anything in general. The gay marriage one said "marriage is love," but a response was a black bar saying "marriage is a black pit of despair." I laughed.

Jane Austen would definitely be on the list -- at least one of each novel. ;-)

I guess I live in a cave, then! I'd never heard that before. Thanks for the comment.

You might like to see some of the older ones. The "xyz is love" statement is normally a link to the HTML code for the colorbar, so I could just copy and paste it somewhere. This is an example.

I still need to read Northanger Abbey, but then again, I need to read a lot of things.

Thanks for the example. I don't want to get too many people hotlinking my url so that I get hosting problems, so I try to encourage uploading to your own server.

Colour bars- Northanger Abbey

Sure, I'd be interested. These are beautiful, thanks.
I'd particularly like to see pics from the 1986 Northanger Abbey...I'm one of the few fans of NA 1.
At least NA1 used Udolpho for Catherine's fantasies.
I am appalled how NA2 used The Monk; a book she never read !

Thank you! And I'm pleased to hear of another NA1 fan. May I ask who you are on LiveJournal? Thanks for commenting.

I'm a visitor to Livejournal so
shouldn't be so forthright on NA2;
please excuse my presumtion.
NA is my favourite Jane Austen book next to P&P.
I am known as Mandy N.
Please keep up your great work with the NA colour bars.
Wish I was as talented :-D

Not at all! I wasn't meaning to sound stand-offish, so please forgive me if I came off that way!

Might you be the same Mandy N over at RoP? ;-)

Thank you for your compliments, and you are very sweet!

(these are rather old...) Thanks! I've got one in progress, but I'll admit I haven't thought about doing very many more.

It is! (:

You ought to make more! I don't think you ever finished your entire Jane Austen series, and I'm sure you would make plenty of other lovely colorbars as well, on all sorts of topics. d: It would be nice to see them. Which one do you have in progress?

Date: 2008-02-24 07:17 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
Well in that case! ;-D

You're right, I haven't, mainly because I use icons as the images and I don't have big enough batches of each movie.

The 1995 Sense & Sensibility. I've been working on a batch of those, and I was going to post one when I posted the icons.
