olde_fashioned: (baby prayers)
At the suggestion of one of my friends, a batch of icons dedicated to innocent (and adorable!) babies and children. So many people regard them as a burden, a hindrance, something to be avoided at all costs, when in truth children are a blessing from God. Besides -- who can possibly resist such utter cuteness? ;-)

olde_fashioned: (PotO -- romance)
A batch of The Phantom of the Opera icontest entries for [livejournal.com profile] poto_stillness. The vast majority are from the movie with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler, but there are a couple stage icons as well. There is a significant number of Raoul/Christine this time, due to a couple of Raoul-centered challenges. So all you Raoul fans lucked out! ;-)

Think of me // think of me fondly // when we've said goodbye // remember me // once in a while // please promise me you'll try )
olde_fashioned: (18th century -- Copley blue sleeves)
Almost four dozen icons of one of my favourite subjects: 18th Century art and fashions. There are a large amount of John Singleton Copley icons, Allan Ramsay, with Gustave Jean Jacquet, a 19th century artist whose style is so similar that I decided to go ahead and include him, especially since his subjects seem to be clad in 18th century-esque garments. ;-)

Where possible, I've preserved the titles of the paintings in the URLs, except for Ramsay. Minimal again this time, because I felt it suited the portraits better. They're so lovely, they don't need any textures.

All our tears have reached the sea // part of you will live in me // way down deep inside my heart )
olde_fashioned: (American -- Prayer at Valley Forge)
Twenty random icons, all with the unifying theme of Americana and patriotism. Mostly September 11th in nature, with a few of George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt thrown in for good measure, because politics just ain't what it used to be.

olde_fashioned: (Waterhouse -- The Lady of Shalott)
Thirty stock icons all with the theme of Autumn, because it's almost that time of year again, and I know someone who loves fall as much as I do. ;-) Hands down the most beautiful of the four seasons, I had a lot of fun scouting for images and working with such vibrant colors. :-) I also made up a coordinating wallpaper just because.

olde_fashioned: (pink -- Tissot bustle)
Twenty-six Frank Weston Benson icons, featuring turn-of-the-century beauties in romantic outdoor settings that have a very "summer-y" feel to them. I have a notecard of his Eleanor (my userpic and #1 in this batch) sitting on the dresser in my room, and I decided to look him up online. They're quite a feast for the eyes, methinks, so how could I possibly resist the temptation to icon them? ;-D

olde_fashioned: (PotO -- this is OPERA!)
A batch of The Phantom of the Opera icontest entries for [livejournal.com profile] poto_stillness. All are from the movie with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler, and I've included two wallpapers as well because I just couldn't resist. ;-)

More icontest entries (mostly Regency, but some Medieval, too) of various Jane Austen adaptations, with some paintings by Ingres, Vigee LeBrun, Copley, Gainsborough, and a ton of other Regency images for various [livejournal.com profile] regency_stills contests. :-)

''...allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.'' )
olde_fashioned: (Scotland -- take me home)
I've rounded up a few icons that I've been making on and off for a while now, all with the theme of Scotland. ;-) Scottish castles, scenery, thistles, and a few Scottish paintings, including the very famous Scotland Forever! by Elizabeth Thompson. I've also included love banners and a wallpaper for those of you who love Scotland as much as I do. :-) I've been really in a Scottish mood due to reading and watching Kidnapped, lol.

As ever, my icons are not bases, please credit/comment if taking, and enjoy!

Scotland the Brave )
olde_fashioned: (Victorian -- Fisher's fashion)
A small batch of Victorian and Edwardian lovely ladies. The first ten are all Victorian stage actresses, including Lillie Langtry, (#2 is Millais' portrait of her), Lilian Braithwaite, Gabrielle Ray, Lillian Russell, Louise Pounds, and Sarah Bernhardt. Their specific names I've preserved in the file names (right-click to view) and last five are "Gibson girls" by Charles Dana Gibson.

olde_fashioned: (N&S -- true love (train car kiss))
More North & South! ;-D There are a few more icontest entries, and again I was trying to make most of these look fairly "gritty", but there are some that aren't. Due to some delightful new textures I've been experimenting with those, as well. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (Medieval -- Stitching the Standard)
A bunch of icontest entries this time, mostly of various eras in art (Medieval, Regency, and Victorian) but also of flower stock as well as some of Millais, EB Leighton, Dicksee, Alma-Tadema, and Mucha. I've also included a pair of love banners; one of Medieval art and the other of Mucha. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (JE -- Charlotte Bronte)
It's amazing how fast all these things collect in my files!! These ones are a bit older -- I'm not making these as fast as I post them, lol. ;-P

Close to four dozen icons this time, of various Regency fashion plates, as well as a lot of C.E. Brock illustrations for some of Jane Austen's novels. Also some illustrations by Hugh Thompson for Jane Eyre, various images of the Brontë sisters, and some Pride & Prejudice 2005 icontest entries. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (Victorian -- Alexander's woman in black)
A batch of icons from new artists that I recently stumbled across on the ARC. ;-) There are two from Thomas Eakins, and the rest are mostly John White Alexander. I love the feminine delicacy of these.

olde_fashioned: (18th century -- Copley blue sleeves)
Almost three dozen icons of one of my favourite subjects: 18th Century art and fashions! 8-D Most of these are by Thomas Gainsborough, but there are a few John Singleton Copley icons, as well two wallpapers.

I've preserved the titles of the paintings at the bottom and have numbered them to correspond with their sucessive icons. ;-) Mostly minimal this time around, because I felt it suited the portraits better. They're so lovely, they don't need any textures.

And yes I made one of Blue Boy. ;-P

olde_fashioned: (America the beautiful (a))
In honour of Memorial Day and the countless men who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Almost sixty icons of the various Civil War Regimental flags, as displayed in the opening sequence of Gods & Generals. (gee, imagine that -- I did a guy movie for a change!!) I iconed each and every one of the flags, and they are listed in the order that they are shown in the film. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (1830s -- shoes)
20 icons of various early Victorian paintings, mostly Joseph Karl Stieler, with some Franz Winterhalter. A good friend pointed these out to me, and I could not resist iconing such prettiness!! ;-D They are mostly in chronological order as well as I could approximate the dates from the clothing and hairstyles, starting with the 1830s and Stieler and ending with the 1850s and Winterhalter. ;-)

olde_fashioned: (N&S -- Mrs. Thornton's errand)
36 icons of the so-wonderful-it-can-never-be-iconed-enough North & South. This time I've got a few icontest entries in there, as well as one of Higgins and Bessie. I was really going for a "grittier" look this time, since the story is so serious, and the setting rather "gritty" in itself. ;-) I love that about this story, how the world can be dark and ugly and scary but there still can be things as beautiful as love and friendship, as Christian values and moral people who still try to do the right thing.

Another batch of costume drama icons that I made for various icontests, including both versions of Pride & Prejudice (1995 and 2005), various other Jane Austen adaptations, as well as some from The Prestige and Daniel Deronda. There is a P&P Friends Only banner of Jane Bennet (Rosamund Pike) as well, for good measure. ;-)
