You know, they say you can judge a person (and a nation) by how they treat the helpless and those unable to defend themselves.

This poster doesn't even need any words. It speaks for itself.

Amen, amen.

I always find it interesting how I get unfriended by people whenever I post something even remotely political. ;-P

Isn't it interesting? It's so sad and juvenile that people can't just accept the opinions of others and move on.

People have been vandalizing my front yard :-/

I'm not American (I'm british. Quite the Opposite) and to be honest I'm quite sick about hearing your elections all the time. Our media is obessed with you and its really quite daunting. There are constant adverts about the power of America and Documentaries all over the place. And I find it all rather quite extreme.
At the end of the day we're all human, right? And children of god, as you point out here (I'm not exactly religious but ive been brought up by the church of england, so I know my stuff) so really Obama is a child of god too and you should have as much respect for him as anybody else? Did Jesus put up posters around Jerusalem against Herod and Pilate? He never spoke a bad word about them. He loved them all even though they were 'bad' or however you'd like to describe roman lifestyles.
I'm not voting for anyone. I couldn't care less about Obama or that other guy or any of this..
I'm just saying.. hate propaganda isn't exactly the best way to help society.

Date: 2008-10-18 11:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
I'm right there with you in being sick to death of our elections.

Yes, Obama is a child of God, as is everyone else on this planet. But unfortunately the vast majority of his views are not at all Biblical, in fact, quite the opposite. And while Jesus never put up political signs, he certainly did speak up when someone was doing something wrong. Jesus' anger in the temple, anyone? He never spoke a bad word about anyone personally, but he did "call a spade a spade" and urged people to turn from their sin. He didn't tell the adulteress "You're a child of God so I can't say anything bad about you or your deeds," but rather He urged her to turn from her sins, and to "go and sin no more." As Christians we are called to love the sinner, but hate the sin. I don't believe an anti-abortion poster qualifies as "hate propaganda."

Thanks for stopping by, and I always find it interesting to see what those across the world think about us here in America. ;-)

Ha, yeah really. What's up with people who can't bear to hear an opposing view?

Lots of the time if someone requests to friend me who I don't know, I go to their profile and see what they're all about. If by reading that I look like a person who they wouldn't actually like, I tell them even though I'm perfectly fine with them friending me, I warn them that they probably won't even like me. More often they look at my profile and whatnot and decide against friending me, haha.

Okay. While I do agree with the sentiment most of the time, I find it consistently sickening the methods that you use to express your points of view. There is a huge difference between making a statement and alienating giant chunks of the population. Posts like this are not going to make friends and influence people and serve only to make yourself feel good about what you believe.

You are more than welcome to keep me on your friends list, as my photo and costume entries are for the most part public, and if I recall correctly that's why you friended me in the first place. However, I am unfriending you because while we may believe in the same principles, I don't want to wade through posts in which the author posts contentious material and then forbids comments of an opposing nature. I also want nothing to do with posts that are intended only to bolster the self-righteous feelings of their authors. By posting in such a deliberately narrow-minded fashion, you are slowly eliminating those from your friends list that you may actually be interested in reaching, thereby leaving only those that agree completely with you. Soon you will be preaching only to the choir, so to speak.

I couldn't care less whether Obama had lied or not about his view on the abortion issue. Both he and McCain are politicians. They are going to lie.

I'm pro-abortion, by the way. You're entitled to your beliefs. And I'm entitled to mine. So far, I've merely accepted that your political beliefs are different from mine. But because I found this latest post rather repulsive, I've decided to remove you from my FRIENDS list.

So just because someone is going to lie, anyway, that means we shouldn't care. Great. Well, terrorists are always going to blow people up, so I guess we shouldn't care about that either.

You know I'm definitely pro-life, but really (or maybe it's because I've become so jaded in the past couple of years through politics) I doubt McCain or Obama is going to do anything to change this issue. Bush claimed or at least implied he was going to overturn Roe vs. Wade, but he didn't in 8 years. (Actually didn't really change anything that I can see involving social issues.) That's not to say I'm for Obama, because I just think it's kinda weird that he just came out of nowhere and now he's running for president. But anyway do you have any evidence that Obama is for partial-birth abortions?

Date: 2008-10-20 05:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
I too, am entirely disgusted with politics. It seems a necessary evil, but I'm beginning to wonder if a prerequisite is being a liar.

I don't think Bush is an example for much of anything...I think just about everyone save the most stubborn of persons would acknowledge his failures across the board.

As for Obama's record, I would strongly suggest you read THIS (http://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/viewarticle.php?selectedarticle=2008.10.14_George_Robert_Obama's+Abortion+Extremism_.xml) article.

While I do prefer Obama to McCain (even though I'm Canadian and therefore can not vote), I find it funny that Obama says he's Christian and therefore can not agree with same-sex marriage, and yet he has such strong beliefs regarding abortion. Um.

Edited to add: I agree with this post, and I don't find it offensive at all. I'm pro-choice, I suppose, and I can understand why some women feel they have no other option besides abortion (sometimes I can agree with it), but I'd much rather see them give the child a chance. It's just so sad when it's taken away like that. Especially when those disgusting methods are used.

By the way, I have posted here before... I was majesdane but I've changed my name recently. Just so you know I've actually been here before and all that. :)

Sorry to have missed this!

I can understand why some women feel they have no other option besides abortion

So can I, and that's one area where the pro-lifers and Christian community has failed miserably. We should be providing options, help and support for these women, and opening up our homes to their babies if they want to give them up, not just pointing fingers and saying the house is burning down without doing anything to put the flames out.

By the way, I have posted here before...

That's fine! Thanks for letting me know. ;-D
