olde_fashioned: (Medieval -- Stitching the Standard)
[personal profile] olde_fashioned
A bunch of icontest entries this time, mostly of various eras in art (Medieval, Regency, and Victorian) but also of flower stock as well as some of Millais, EB Leighton, Dicksee, Alma-Tadema, and Mucha. I've also included a pair of love banners; one of Medieval art and the other of Mucha. ;-)

As always, never alter my graphics, comment, credit, and enjoy!

Please, if you take anything, be so kind as to take note of the numbers of the icon(s) you're saving, since I am always experimenting with my styles and I would like to know what people like best. (This helps me so I can make more!) The numbers are above the icons.

See (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b6/Mucha_window_in_St_Vitus.JPG) it yourself. Though it's not as cool in person, I know, and there's no super awesome guide named Vladimir, but perhaps it will suffice until you can get over to Prague?

If you'd like my opinion, the girl in 23 looks like part of her has gotten cut off (you know, background eraser takes off the edge too much?). Twenty-nine was not bad per se, but it didn't really do anything for me. :/ Very few (like, three) of your icons would be labeled "bad" or "poorly executed" or anything negative by my humble opinion. As it is, I'm trying to figure out how I can make some sort of collage of some of my favorites to use as a personal desktop. :)

Oh wow!!! *stares* Is that ever magnificent! And lol, but I doubt I'll ever make it to Prague. ;-) My sights are set soley on the shore of the United Kingdom...;-D

Aha! You've found some of the ones that I had trouble with. ;-P #29 doesn't do it for me, either; in fact I don't even think I entered that one in the contest. And I would call far more than three of my icons "bad" or "poorly executed"!!! Especially the older ones...*facepalm*

I never really thought I'd get there anytime soon when I decided I wanted to go in 10th grade, but I went the summer between 11th and 12th. And I never imagined I'd get to go to China! I've had some awesome opportunities to only be 19.

And at least you post your icons. I slide them in with other icons and only tell people if I don't think they'll make fun. T_T

Yikes, you're brave!! I'd be scared stiff to go to China. 8-/

Aha! An iconmaker ourself, are we?? ;-D You really ought to post some! Most people that I've encountered are amazingly supportive and helpful, especially if you can take constructive criticism and don't mind pointers or suggestions. I've learned a lot that way. :-)

Well, I went with a group of about eighty other people, and we were "guests of the government" or something similar. Otherwise, yes, I'd be very worried about going there alone or with someone who doesn't know anymore than I do.

Hrm, maybe I will. I mostly do the cropping bit. I did just remember that I entered a few icontests, but only because no one knew they were mine except me and the runner. :/ This is the only icon in mine right now that I've done and it was basically just cropping and animating. Not much, but it was what I wanted!

Ohhh. That's a bit different, but still, I don't think I'd trust the Chinese government.

I would never travel in a country where I didn't speak the language without a person that I trusted utterly along with me who did.

I started with just cropping, too. Then I began lightening/darkening them. Then I wanted to tweak the colors! And THEN I discovered textures, masks, and brushes, and the rest is history! ;-P Perhaps you should quit while you still can, lol. This iconing stuff is somewhat addicting, ha ha!

I thought you might have made that. ;-) Animations are haaaarrrrrrdddddd. You saw that P&P one I made? Well, you have nooooooooo ideaaaaaaaa how long it took me to get it to that point. *shakes head*

It's was mostly not-sketchy. There was one thing, but I didn't see it personally so I'm not sure how crazy-government it was. There is a family/church friend that's living in China who has had more to do with the government and she has to deal with the "scarier" aspects.

As for not speaking the language, I have the feeling I could survive... I mean, I know English, of course, and I know German, so I'm pretty sure I could survive pretty well this side of Italy. One of my dearest wishes is to go to a different country or culture or whatever and eventually "blend in". But having someone there when you start is nice, too. :) (That's how we ate in China. "Fleming! Fleming! Ask them what this iiiis!")

I may post some, them. :) I don't know what the deal is with textures and brushes and I've no idea what masks are. !_!

And yes, the animation is crazier by far. I'm mostly just a stop animation kind of person, like the icon. But I did stumble on something that does that blendy animation for you and was like, "WHOA DUDE." No really.

Well I'm Christian so automatically I think I'd be on their radar. 8-/ They Do Not like us over there. I believe you are forbidden to bring Bibles into the country, but I could be wrong about that.

Ach! I don't know any German except for "gutentag" (sp?) and "vilkommen" and "puppenwagen" or whatever. ;-P I know a lot more Spanish, but not enough to do anything with!! I could order food though -- burrito? Si! Pica de gallo, carne asada? No, no. Salsa? NO! Pollo? Si! *lol* ;-)

I'd love to go to Scotland -- at least they speak English there. But something tells me I might need a translator there, as well! ha ha.

I love textures!! I make most of my own brushes. Masks (I think...) are the black and white thingies, like notebook textures, that you screen over the picture. I'm pretty sure that's what I've got on Christy, here, unless I've been misinformed. ;-)

GIMP is what I use, and it has an animation feature. I think it blends it, because it Frankensteins an icon every time I try to make it move. *pouts*

Ah, yes, well, our friend is there officially as an English teacher, but off the record missions. When emailing her you have to be careful about what you use ("God" becomes "Father", "pray" to "yarp", etc.). As for the Bibles, you can bring a few, but not huge amounts to distribute. When we were there it was Easter and we had a small "service" at the hotel without being ousted or anything.

That's "Guten Tag," "wilkommen" and I'm not sure of the others. But at least you didn't start singing "Dankeh shaaaaaaaaaaaaane!" Agh, I can't stand that song. (Also, "Wunderkind" by Alanis Morisette as heard in Narnia.) I took three years of Spanish when I was little, but I only remember how to count to nineteen, a few colors, and "cat". French can go kill itself. Nine weeks in eighth grade was way more than enough. (Odd, considering I happily took eight years of German...)

I'd love to go to Scotland... or just spend an age in Britain in general.

I've never heard of GIMP until I was reading your comments and such. And I've realized since talking about this that I've done a lot of experimenting on images for other things besides icons. I make mix CDs fairly often, and make a cover if possible, so I've practiced on those, plus graphics for other sites. Most are just text and cropping (1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/alskdjf.jpg) 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/banner2-1.gif) 3 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/bleeders1.jpg) 4 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/boy.jpg) 5 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/booksbanner.jpg) 6 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/cover.jpg) 7 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/gf2.jpg) 8 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/Untitled-1copy.jpg)). But there are a few that I feel are more complicated. But I might be wrong. (1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/slytherinbanner.jpg) 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/morethanpractice.jpg)
3 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/lady_mochrie/garden_06copy.jpg) and the lolcat).

Note: you don't actually have to look at those or worry about them. I just put them there to maybe help explain what I meant.

Ahh, okay! I still wouldn't like even supporting tourism in a country that treats their fellow human beings like chattel.

I know a bit more Spanish than that, lol. But only little teeny sayings and stuff like that. I hate French!!

The entire U.K., IMVHO. ^-^

Well it's entirely free, and not quite as overwhelming as it looks once you get used to it. ;-D And there are plenty of tutorials to help get you started!

I looked. :-) You're off to a good start, methinks. ;-D

Understandable. :)

Hooray! Someone else who hates French! No one hates French. They're all, "It's the language of romance!" Argh! Italian is so much better. (But apparently really, really hard.)

Ditto! I hate the language, and have no fondness for their culture whatsoever. I am utterly baffled as to what the appeal is! I'm an anglophile all the way. *gaspshock*

heheh.

I'd like to go to Paris for one thing, and that is the Opera House. *is a dorky, dorky phan* I mean, if there, I'd see other things, but that's the only thing that calls to me! (Okay, I wouldn't pass up Versailles, either.)

See, everyone says German is a hacking and spitting while French is flowing and glorious, but I'm the other way. I think German is so beautiful! (And fairly easy when it comes to learning...) I don't really know anything of French culture, though, so... Germans I think I could take. Italians have lots of skeevy old men...

Maybe we should just stay in the UK.... :)

Heheheh!!! Have you seen the extras on the PotO DVD? (I'm sure you probably have) They visit a Paris Opera House in that. ;-D

I (humbly) agree that German is "hacking and spitting" but I think French is what I think Noah Webster called it -- the "baby talk of the nursery". ;-P lol.

All aboard for Britain!!!
