An oddly pop-culture centered post...
May. 20th, 2009 11:17 am...in which I briefly join the 21st century like a normal human being, and act like a dork. LOL.
(I don't even have an icon for this kind of thing...)
First: I'm not usually the type to discuss television shows in actual blog entries let alone bewail their fate when the networks do something stupid (I don't even HAVE a TV tag, ha!), but this time I amreally not happy most seriously displeased.
CBS has cancelled Without a Trace, the one show I actually like. *pouts* As if that's not bad enough, they seem determined to refuse releasing them on DVD beyond Season 3. *grumbles* I won't even bore you all with my complaints about how they wrapped up the relationships! (If you are a fellow fan however I'd be happy to commiserate with you!) LOL.

Two: Terminator Salvation. Let me preface this with a disclaimer that I really do not like the whole Terminator thing, I've never been "into" it and I'm certainly not about to start, but have you seen the trailers for this thing? Two words come to mind (and I rarely even use them): awesome and cool. LOL. I don't care if it is Terminator (I really wish it wasn't), it just looks like something fun to watch, so my brother and I are going to try and see it a day or two after it comes out.
In case you live in a cave, or haven't made up your own mind yet (or perhaps in defense of my own lack of taste, ha ha ha), take a look at this trailer. THIS ONE has the cleverest smartest neatest incorporation of the Terminator theme which is pretty much THE best marketing/commercial idea I've seen in a really long time, but maybe that's just me. ;-P Whoever is making the ads for this thing needs to win some kind of award, LOL!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Three: Paramore's song Decode. From the soundtrack of Twilight (another fandom I most certainly do not plan on joining and a by group I'm not certain I should even be mentioning, since I know little about them), no matter how much it may embarrass me to admit it, there's no denying the "catch-y" nature of this song. Plus it's moody, and I like moody, melancholy songs.
The one drawback (for me, anyway) was associating it with Twilight (which, quite frankly, bugs the heck out of me. Sorry fans!). But this (fantastic) video remakes the theme to center it around The Dark Knight and all but fixed that problem, hee hee! ;-)
Partially inspired by the above, I also had a devilishly good time improving the original album cover that came with the iTunes download, though.
*wicked grin*

Much better.
Okay, so shoot me! Both those two annoy me. No malice was intended, just a bit of innocent (silly) fun and creativity. ;-D
Now despise me if you dare. ;-P

Date: 2009-05-20 06:53 pm (UTC)It's always the ones you get into that get tanked!! I don't think they'll release the DVDs; I think they would have done it already. And they seem to be ignoring emails about it. :/

Date: 2009-05-20 06:46 pm (UTC)I felt the season...now series...finale, was really weak and predictable. They could have done so much better. Maybe it will be picked up by another network as Law and Order: Criminal Intent was, we watch that now on the USA network.

Date: 2009-05-20 06:57 pm (UTC)I wish they'd shown Danny and Elena, too (they are sooooo adorable together), but it was mostly exasperating how they ended the Jack/Sam relationship. I mean, she's been pining over him (and he her!) for the ENTIRE show, and in the last episode they decide to part ways???? What the heck??? That's totally out of character, IMVHO, and just a cop-out for the writers to wrap up the loose ends.
I couldn't stand Brian at all.
I never could warm up to L&O: CI. I'll watch it (I prefer cop shows in general) but L&O and sometimes L&O: SVU I'll watch as well and those are way better. (I like Mike & Connie and Olivia & Elliot.) Those two aren't in any danger of being killed off, though, lol.

I too am not a particular fan of Twilight. My sister loves it, and I've seen her DVD, but it's a bit overrated imo. It's not even that original a storyline. But it does get me 'in' with the older kids I teach when I tell them I've seen the film ;)

Date: 2009-05-20 07:57 pm (UTC)It just bugs me, maybe because it's so trendy now. I'm less inclined to like something if everyone else on the planet is crazy about it. *rolls eyes*

Date: 2009-05-20 08:11 pm (UTC)My sister is jealous of Hayley's hair! She loved the 'yellow at the top, red at the bottom' look in particular. I just admire her guts to pull it off ;)

Date: 2009-05-20 08:22 pm (UTC)LOL! You're right, it takes a lot of guts! I like how she wears her eyeshadow.
How old is your sister?
Part of me has always liked the "punk" look, if it's done a certain way. I think it's cute. I don't know if you've ever watched NCIS, but Abby on that show is funny, too, IMO. ;-)

Date: 2009-05-20 09:29 pm (UTC)Awww, Abby the preppy Goth! She's adorable :D

Date: 2009-05-20 09:41 pm (UTC)Gosh, what's this, yet another point on which we agree? ;-P Abby's great, and absolutely adorable. She's even more adorable when Gibbs is in the room, ha ha ha.
no subject
Date: 2009-05-20 10:25 pm (UTC)I don't get to watch NCIS as much as I would like (it's on at an unsociable time here) but it's great! Abby and Gibbs are so cute <3

Date: 2009-05-23 08:03 pm (UTC)I don't watch it much, either, but they are indeed cute together!
Do you like watching westerns?

Date: 2009-05-20 08:07 pm (UTC)I sat watching it going, What? This woman is messing with clearly set (from a mythological/historical//folklore POV) Vampire...rules? I mean, they go out in the daytime!!! Pfft! And it's not as if the Vampire-gone-good-loves-a-mortal storyline hasn't been done to death.

Date: 2009-05-20 08:20 pm (UTC)What other kinds of music do you like, or even songs that are "abberations"? I can't help but love You and Me by Lifehouse, it's so romantic, sigh...
LOL, yes! And quite frankly the whole villain-falls-in-love-with-good-person-and-is-subsequently-redeemed type thing really turns me off. It's unrealistic.

Date: 2009-05-20 09:21 pm (UTC)But I do love certain British/Irish folk music. I cannot praise Cara Dillon highly enough. She is just amazing! I think (given you are a Hayley Westenra and Celtic Woman fan) that you would really like her, too. Kate Rusby and Seth Lakeman are also favourites of mine. You can listen to two Cara songs here & here to see what I'm on about :)
Oh, and speaking of Hayley Westenra, in November she was on TV here for memorial service (attended by the Queen no less) and she sung a specially written song with Jonathan Ansell called 'Today Won't Come Again' and it's just gorgeous!!! It's now on YouTube (here), if you feel up to waiting for the upload time (I know it's a trial on your comp). I think it's worth it ;)

Date: 2009-05-20 09:31 pm (UTC)Lyrics are a big thing for me! They have to be good, even a catchy song with lame lyrics isn't the same as a well-written, heart-felt song, IMO.
I'm not familiar with Cara Dillon, but I'll have to look into her if she's comparable to Hayley and Celtic Woman! ;-P I need some new music, anyway. And thank you for the links, I'll try to get a song of hers to load! (I just watched a vid of When It Rains, and it wasn't bad at all, even though it was a poorer-quality concert thingie. I think I need to find a ripped track or offical music video to appreciate it properly.)
Ooohoohooh, say no more! Hayley? I'm goin', I'm goin'!! ;-P I only hope iTunes has it, because it's so frustrating when you fall in love with a song only to find out it's not available there, like Listen to the Wind, sigh...:-/ *runs to load your link*

Ahh, country! Brad Paisley = <3
no subject
Date: 2009-05-23 08:01 pm (UTC)I stopped listening to country radio years ago, and that was before Brad Paisley got "big" so I'm not familiar with most of his songs.
Have you ever heard the LeAnn Rimes renditions of the old Patsy Clines songs? I have that album and really like it. :-)

Date: 2009-05-20 07:34 pm (UTC)About Twilight... I just read the first book, and actually, I'm reading it again already, which is something I usually -NEVER- do - and I've read a lot of books in my lifetime. I read it in two days, I just couldn't put it away - and a couple of hours after I couldn't help but opening it again, which, as mentioned, is very unusual for me.
The next night I ordered the two next books in the series.
However, I often find myself really reluctant about mentioning to friends that I'm even reading it - solely because of the fuss and fan-craze there has been about Twilight after the movie came out. It should never have been made in my opinion - it will never be able to live up to the expectations of a fan of the books, just like The Golden Compass or what have you.
I guess I'm just trying to say that you should give the books a chance - it would be a shame to miss out on them, just because of the taboo the fan-craze has brought to them.
Also: Hi. Goodness, I'm sorry my first ever comment to you ended up being that long!
*embarrassed*
no subject
Date: 2009-05-20 08:10 pm (UTC)Twilight - honestly, my reading list is so long, that I could want to read the books and I wouldn't ever get around to it, lol. I've got a lot of Brit Lit that I've been dying to read and some that I need to finish; at the moment Wuthering Heights. ;-)
Welcome to my blog, then! And don't worry about the long comment in the slightest - I quite like them. ;-)

Date: 2009-05-20 08:44 pm (UTC)Two, you're not missing anything by not reading/watching/hearing about Twilight. It's not just the fact that Stephenie Meyer doesn't know what she's talking about with her mythology (as well as... everything else. The woman can barely string a sentence together...) but there are some seriously questionable things about the series in my opinion (and this is coming from a teen) like the fact that Edward is really, when you get down to the heart of it, a stalker. And I don't like the fact that so many teens and young adults read the books and think that they are promoting healthy relationships. It's all "OMG its twu wuv 4eva!" Sorry, touchy subject.
Third, I'm sorry your show got cancelled. It hasn't happened to me in a few years, but it sucks when it does. :(
no subject
Date: 2009-05-20 09:05 pm (UTC)Decode is available on iTunes, or rather, it was when we bought it, because that's where it came from. It was the only song on the Twilight soundtrack that you could buy separately, IIRC.
I'm trying to load a When It Rains YouTube vid right now! ;-D
That's pretty much what I've heard about Twilight. I agree about the whole stalker-thing being creepy as heck, and not a good role model for anyone, especially young, impressionable kids.
Thank you for your sympathy! It does suck. It happened to me when I was watching Alias, but that had gotten so lame in the last two or three seasons that I didn't even care anymore. They'd played that out long past it's natural life, but WaT still had potential, IMO. Plus I like the cast.
no subject
Date: 2009-05-21 12:29 am (UTC)And how was the song? :)
I shudder every time I hear someone go on about how Bella (or Edward) is a good role model. It just makes me want to scream and jump around and hit things and ask people if they're crazy. It's actually kind of scary how crazy those books make me. I'll stop now because this is not the appropriate place for a rant.
I didn't watch WaT, but I still remember when they cancelled 4400 on USA. The plot had gotten so crazy that there were loose ends everywhere you looked... and then they cancelled it. A couple of seasons later and I probably wouldn't have minded because it would have been purely ridiculous at that point, but still.

Date: 2009-05-23 08:08 pm (UTC)How was the song? Decode, you mean? Listen to the vid if you want to hear! :-P (I like it a lot)
I'm just sick of seeing their two faces emblazoned on everything. *scowls*
What's 4400? I don't think I've heard of that one. Is it on cable?

Date: 2009-05-20 09:12 pm (UTC)aww, Without a Trace is to be without a trace?! :( I haven't watched the whole thing by any means, but I do occasionally watch it in (syndication?) late night. And I do/did like watching it. (Partly just because of Eric Close) :) But, alas...

Date: 2009-05-20 09:21 pm (UTC)Eric Close is nice, or rather, his character is. He kinda got a raw deal this season, though, poor guy. So did Jack, for that matter!

Date: 2009-05-23 08:11 pm (UTC)When I found out it was set in Forks, WA it made me think of you. I guess it's helped the tourism industry?
I'm sure the scenery is beautiful, but if I was only interested in that, I'd've watched LotR. ;-P

Thank you m'dear. :-D
