Icons: Costume Drama Icontest Entries

A miscellaneous batch of costume drama icons that I made for various icontests, including both versions of Pride & Prejudice (1995 and 2005), both versions of Sense & Sensibility, (1995 and 2008), both versions of Northanger Abbey, (1986 and 2006) as well as some from North & South, Emma, Becoming Jane, Amazing Grace, Lady Jane, and a few others. Unrelated: How do you get screencaps? I've been trying for almost three hours, downloading several different programs, etc., but I can't get it to work. Whenever I do print-screen, paste into Paint, and save, it goes black as soon as I do anything (close window, play more of the movie, etc.). *headdesk many times* I've tried Windows Player Classic, Windows Media, and like three other programs that I had to download. Half of them don't let me take it off the DVD, and whatever does turns it black.

Gosh, I don't know what to tell you! It sounds like you're doing everything right. I play a movie in Windows Media Center, pause it on the scene I want to cap, press CTRL + PRINT SCR (ALT + PRINT SCR also works on my computer) and then paste it into Paint.NET, not Paint. Maybe you should try pasting it into GIMP instead? What is it that is going black?

If there's a specific cap from a movie that I have I'd be more than willing to get it for you.

19 - that was for the cloud texture theme @ pp_challenge so I spliced that in with the silhouette. I was afraid it looked funny)

26 - you like the black edges, don't you? ;-)

38 - no texture, just a glare

39 - I've never heard of that movie before. Do you know anything about it?

oh my goodness, these are very beautiful!! very good aesthetics. May I ask, how did you do all these with paint net?

I am not really using Paint.NET anymore, since I've been using GIMP. But most of the techniques I use could easily be translated into Paint.NET. Most of the effects you see were achieved by using textures and masks, which are basically icons of glows, lights, or paper, set to screen or multiply on top of the icon itself. Does this help? :-)
