ETA: Due to lots of questions of when this production will be airing in the US, I'm posting here what [livejournal.com profile] robertinbc was so kind as to share:

"In January 2008, PBS will be showing The Complete Jane Austen. They will show Mansfield Park, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey which were shown in the U.K. earlier this year. The new Sense and Sensibility will also be shown along with Emma(A&E version) and Pride and Prejudice(BBC version)."

LOL!! Yes I quite agree.

-sigh- Yellow dresssss! I want.

You know, I did actually! I think the actor probably went through a 90s phase and had his ear pierced?

Get in line!!! That yellow dress is one of the reasons I rented OMF in the first place. ;-)

LOL! Well, I was wondering if it was for a role or something. I thought Anna Friel was beautiful, didn't you?

Hahah!!!! Well, I do like her blue one :D

Oooh yes, she is quite beautiful. And just lovely. She is just perfect for costume dramas.

ALL of them were pretty. ;-P

And you're right, she's perfect for costume dramas. Plus I love red hair. Have you seen Perfume? I was thinking of renting it, if it's worthwhile.

As do I! Sometimes I think my hair looks as if it has a reddish tint. But I probably imagine it. Hah. :D

I actually bought Perfume without seeing it. I really really liked it. I think the story is very descriptive and very dark. It is a very gritty film, a bit Dickensian like. It defiinitely shows some of the cruelties of human nature. Great performances as well. Butttttt it is definitely strange subject matter.

The book was great as well!

Oooh, I think (or hope, rather!) mine has reddish undertones, when the light hits it just right. I have blonde highlights though. :-/ I have family members with red hair so maybe I'll get redheaded kids! :-D lol!

You're brave! I don't mind dark, but please don't tell my family it's Dickensian! I'm going to have to convice them to watch it, and they hated Bleak House. ;-) The content, was it just strange, or was it "objectionable" as well?

So do I! Hahahah :D

How could anyone hate Bleak House?!

or Dickens!

I adore Dickens beyond belief. I do understand that his writing is not for everyone. Or films. But Bleak House was just marvelously adapted!!

I'd say some of it is strange and some of it is objectionable. I felt quite sorry for the character really. But as a film, I found it to be a good one. Beautiful costumes and cinematography. I think being open minded about it would be a good thing. Maybe more so for your family? :D

I guess if one is not a fan of period pieces in general. :-( They liked North & South though! :-D

Dickens is almost an aquired taste to some degree -- it's easy to take it at face value and miss the underlying themes, IMO. But you're right about BH! Magnificent!

I'll think about it. ;-) I try not to watch movies with nude scenes and that kind of stuff. Call me a prude if you wish! ;-P

From: [identity profile] psychie.livejournal.com
! It seems hard to find people that like costume films. :{

Yes, and aquired taste. Absolutely.

OH. Well then a warning, there is some nudity. But more so of 'still bodies' rather than sex.

Everyone is prude to an extent! :D

And even harder to find good costume films! ;-)

Thanks for the heads up! And for being understanding. A lot of people turn up their noses!

Byron? Hmmm. Maybe I should make myself one that says Austen, Bronte, and Gaskell! :-D

From: [identity profile] psychie.livejournal.com
Yes! Agreed. Though I do have quite a collection of the good ones. The things that will turn me off the most are bad accents. I know that sounds snobbish, but still!

Absolutely! Everyone is entitled to like what they want or watch what they want! :D

I just love him. His words. -sigh- Have you seen the mini series?

Oh, I think you should!! I desperately want other Gaskell works adapted.

Date: 2007-09-27 10:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
Do you? That must be enjoyable! I'm just building mine. ;-) And bad accents drive me up the wall! I also cannot stand Americans playing Brits. But I like it when Brits play Americans. Go figure!

What mini series? I didn't know there was one! I'm more into novels as opposed to poetry...*hides*

They're making Cranford! With Judi Dench!! *rubs hands togther with glee* Plus a whole bunch of other costume drama veterans. ;-P Greg Wise and Julia Sawalha, too.

It is so well done. Very touching. -sigh-

YES. I cannot stand Americans playing Brits. Unless unless unless they've had proper teachings on British dialects!

I am very very excited for Cranford! I do believe it comes out in November. Huzzah!

It certainly sounds sad! Bleak House was sad enough for me. ;-P

That's one of the reasons I am not looking forward to Becoming Jane...or the new Bronte movie they're making. :-/

November for what country? I'm in the US, and unfortunately we always have to wait longer than England. *pouts*

From: [identity profile] psychie.livejournal.com
Hahah! Oh but the depressing ones are best :D

Becoming Jane I actually really really liked. I thought Anne Hathaway's accent was very good and definitely trained.

I do hope they are re-casting the Bronte film!

November for England :D Sorry!

Ah, that's true. S&S is sad, but at least it has a happy ending!

I certainly hope you're right!

Yeah really. :-/

No fair! It'll probably be a whole year before we get to see it. :-( :-(
