Here is a new batch of art themed icons. I've just "discovered" Thomas Wilmer Dewing, so I kinda went overboard with some of his! ;-P The rest are a few of Rodefer de Camp, Lavery, Garrido, Gerard, and there is one each of Boily, Ingres, and Winterhalter.

~ Comment/credit if taking (and please tell me which number you're using, since I've been experimenting with my styles and I'd like to know what you like!)
~ No altering/stealing/hotlinking
~ Enjoy!

Date: 2007-05-26 09:11 pm (UTC)I dislike arrogance as well, but the thing that REALLY gets me (even in fiction) is when supposedly "good" people lie, cheat, steal, and deceive. If the villain does it then fine -- but when the heroes start lying, that's when my interest starts waning.
Well, I'm trying to keep up with Pemberley.com's online Group Read of P&P, so that's my main motivation for re-reading it! ;-) I like learning about all the history behind the story, and all the life and times things they post there.
I don't think that's shallow. Why bother to read a book if you don't think you'll enjoy it? Isn't that the principal reason for reading fiction??
Oh dear...I fear that I rather enjoy my fluffy books!! ;-) My brother is forever telling me I need to read something other than fiction, but a lot of the history I've learned is *because* of the historical fictions. Only lately have I gotten into the classics, but I've always loved the Christian series' by Phillips & Pella, Janette Oke and such. Do you like Sherlock Holmes?

Date: 2007-05-26 10:51 pm (UTC)Right. I felt really bad for not being able to read it, because I had high hopes about it. In the movie, I really, really loved Fanny's character because it reminded me of my little sister--beautiful and trying to hide it because she's shy. I really was looking forward to seeing that more developed, and then was frustrated by all the stuff distracting from it.
I need to have a look there. I've only glanced at it some. But I do love P&P, probably the best. But that's because it was my hiding place during several crisis, so I became my happy place.
:) Exactly. And hopefully to learn something from it.
I haven't read any of Sherlock Holmes yet. It's in my British Lit. for next year. And I'm not saying fiction is necessarily fluffy... I really like fiction. Just certain books really, really get to me. It's sort of like I said before--if I'm going to read something I want a reward for my time, and I find that fluffy books spend a lot of time doing nothing and I already know the end before I'm done with the first chapter. I also enjoy a good challenge, new ideas and all that.
Have you read Mara, Daughter of the Nile?

Date: 2007-05-28 06:55 am (UTC)I'm sorry about your several crisis. I know that books are the perfect place to escape when you need to! If only everything in life turned out the way it does in fiction...
I believe I've heard of Mara Daughter of the Nile...the title sounds vaguely familiar, but I haven't read it. Is it about ancient Egypt? I love Egyptology, even though it's not in my profile. I have too many interests, I suppose!
Have you ever heard of G.A. Henty? His books are fabulous, and if you like stories with more meat in them, his are chock-full of history that's comfortably woven in with the fiction.

Date: 2007-05-28 08:36 pm (UTC)Yes, it is actually. You really should read it. I don't think it's actually historically accurate, but it's really, really good. I need to reread it one of these days.
I don't think I've heard of him, though I might have seen his books somewhere. I have a hard time keeping track of authors (and actors). I'll look him up.

Date: 2007-05-30 02:45 pm (UTC)Have you read Rifles for Wattie? North and South reminded me of it. It's the best Civil War book I've found.
