Three different wallpapers, with the first being a Watteau painting, the second a Regency fashion plate, and the third also having a fashion plate, this time from the 1830s. Please comment if taking, and enjoy!

Watteau's The Dance

1024 x 768
(Just the one size on this one, sorry.)

A Regency fashion plate that I colored myself, with a Jane Austen quote.

1280 x 800 -::- 1024 x 768 -::- 800 x 600

I also made two icons to go with the Regency wallpaper

A 1830s fashion plate. Think Wives & Daughters. ;-)

I will, I will! I'll make sure I see it. Finding the book shouldn't be too difficult, so I'll check that out from the library--I'll actually ask my boyfriend if we can go right now, because the library doesn't close for another hour and 20 minutes, but if not, I'll check it out tomorrow. After that, finding the movie/series might be a little difficult, but I'm sure ONE of the libraries around here must have it. I'll look in to it. (:

I'll be emailing you right now about the socializing issue. :D

Ha!! Let me tell you, I thought the same exact thing, especially since Gaskell wrote for Dickens' paper, was the best friend of and wrote the first biography for Charlotte Bronte. But there is a shocking lack of Gaskellian materials IMO, and in general she seems to be strangely ignored where she should be lauded. [/rant]

I did not try the libraries for the movie, since I used Netflix to watch it.

And I'm going to answer that right now! :-D

Yes. It is already proving to be more difficult than I thought it would be. My boyfriend's university has the novel, so that's a start. I'll have him pick that up when he goes to school today. Butttt as far as the film goes, I see only the one from John Jakes. ): I'll keep looking, though.

Netflix! :D I should try that. It would probably be worth it. Being able to find movies that are normally hard to find would be enough to entice me in to that, I believe. Is it expensive?

PS. So do you not own N&S?

It absolutely baffles me as to why Gaskell is so ignored. It doesn't make any sense! But at least your boyfriend can get you a copy. I know Borders here where I live has the Norton Critical editions of N&S in their regular stock, if you decide you like it.

Netflix has tons of otherwise hard-to-find movies, tv shows, documentaries, even music videos. No, they're not at all expensive IMO. I think it's about $5.95 for one DVD at a time per month. (are you familiar with the concept?) But when you think about it, renting a regular DVD in a movie rental store is about $6 too, but with Netflix you get as many as you can watch, not just one.

P.S. I do, now. My brother bought me costume dramas for Christmas. :-) I ended up renting it twice though, before December, because I wanted to watch it again! (needless to say, it now practically lives in our DVD player. *hee*)

So wait, it's only $5.95 per month? Or is $5.95 each and every rental you make? If I were to rent a few movies and actually make it worth it, it would probably be very good. I'll check out the website and consider signing up.

Your brother sounds so kind. :D

Okay, I just went and looked at the two smallest plans. I hope this isn't a local thing and that yours would be different! It says that for 1 at-a-time (up to 2 a month) it's $4.99 a month. Then there's 1 at-a-time (Unlimited) - $8.99 a month. I don't know how many movies you can watch, but for us, the unlimited is a great deal. If you watch a lot, then the unlimited ones are perfect, because that means that as fast as you can watch them, and mail them back out, you can keep getting movies. So if you manage to watch 5 movies in 1 month for $8.99, that's less than two dollars a rental! Way cheaper than a video store. ;-)

He is! I love him to death. :-D *hugs brother*

By the way, have you read any of her letters (http://www.lang.nagoya-u.ac.jp/~matsuoka/EG-Letters-CD.html)?

I love reading old correspondence. I have, right now, a book of letters written by Mary Shelley (another favorite writer of mine), and I really should get started on reading some of them. :D

I have read a few of the ones that are bound in my Norton Critical Edition, yes. Mostly just the ones where she is hopping mad at Dickens for wanting to trim her story! ;-P

Aha! Those sound like fun letters to read. :D :D

They are! I liked the ones where she's writing Charlotte Bronte. :-)
