More drawings! This time I did a couple of portraits of two Civil War Confederate generals. I am rather fond of both Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and JEB Stuart, and since my brother is also a huge Civil War buff, and just happened to have magazines with good photographs of them on the covers, I decided to draw from them.

Warning! Fairly large images behind the cut.

These are good.

I admit to a soft spot for the Confederacy (not the owning of slaves part) and recall visiting sites when I was young in the USA. Perhaps it was that sense of a bye gone era of elegance and courtesy a la the Regency here in the UK.

Thank you! :-)

I feel exactly the same way. Sometimes when I think of the entire way of life that was lost due to the war, I get kind of sad. The South had almost it's own culture, and it's all but gone now. I never thought to compare it to the Regency, though, that's an interesting idea!

One word: wow

This is rather random, but ever think about becoming a book cover designer?

Thanks!

Um, not really, but I've always loved pretty book covers? Why, what made you think of that?

These are good! Probably better than what I can do. Did I ever post my self-portrait to my art journal?

Thank you!! And you flatter me. ;-) I don't know that I've seen a drawing of you -- last entry I remember you posting was the drawing of your foot and shoe, or did I miss one? *frowns*

No, you didn't miss one. It would have after the foot/shoe post. I'll have to post it. But it won't look like me and I'll look sad in it, which was unintentional.

BTW, did you ever download Sarah Brightman's version of Scarborough Fair. I've just thought of another way you can hear it.

Oh, okay. But I bet it's better than you're making it out to be!

Nooo......*hides* I'm so scared of breaking any laws! But what's the other way? YouTube?

Yep. Youtube. I can link it to you if you like. But I must warn you. Sarah is just a bit freaky in the video.

Okay, sure!

LOL!! Freaky? Well, that's okay. I'll be listening to her voice really. I've only heard her on the Andrea Bocelli's Romanza when she did a duet with him.

Oh, and I must warn you, I'll be loading it later, like tonight, since it takes like forever to load. Sorry! But I'll certainly come tell you when I've heard it. ;-)

Please do let me know! And let me know what you think. I think you'll find some people who commented on it who like Haley's version better.

Thank you Lori!!

I will, I promise! And as much as I love Hayley, I promise to try and be fair to Sarah, too. ;-P

Okay Lori, I just listened to it! It was very pretty, but I agree and prefer Hayley's version. I think she has a stronger voice, and at least she doesn't think she can fly, lol! ;-P I did like her top though. Who do you prefer?

While we're on the topic of art, look what I found at the museum today. :) I thought of you because of your banner so I took a pic.

8-D Oooohhh!!! I didn't know that painting was here in the US! OH now I absolutely have to go there!!! I adore this portrait, like it's any secret, lol. Thank you very very much for the photo, Jen! ;-P

You know, I recently watched a show on the French Revolution, and did you know the guy who painted it, David, later was responsible for the beheading of Lavoisier? The butcher!

Lovely artwork! I've been fairly creative also lately. I don't really know why I've been in such a drawing frenzy.

Do you scan your art or take a digital picture of it?

Have you? I'd love to see some of your work if you're willing.

I've done both, but these are photos since I think they seem to come out better. :-)

Oh my goodness! You are extraordinarily talented. Jackson is especially haunting. I wish I could draw faces this well. And of course you can share my photos with your brother.

By the way, I went on a quest for pictures of this weekend's J.E.B. Stuart after I got home. Here are a few I found. You'll notice that this reenactor was actually too old to play Stuart, but he was such a sweet man that I overlooked that, as well as the absence of a hat or cape. ;-)

Thank you! Jackson's turned out the best, I think, but I'm glad you like them. :-D And thanks for the permission!

Oh yay, thank you!! *clicks* Hmmm, I think he looks an awful lot like JEB -- the shape of the eyes are the same, especially. What fun and what an honour to represent such great figures in history like that...

Now that I compare him to photos of Stuart, I do see the resemblance, but I was thrown by the age difference (the reenactor is probably in his late 40s), and his beard wasn't as full this weekend.

I wonder if I would have spotted him or not. Probably not!! lol.

Maybe he was hot and got it trimmed. ;-D
