Icon Battle!

This was unbelievably fun...I knew it would be, but it surpassed even my expectations. ;)

The lovely and creatively talented winterlillies was kind enough to shepherd me in my very first icon battle!

We both picked 15 images each and exchanged our images for a total of 30 images resulting in 30 icons. The first 15 images were chosen by me and the last 15 by her. (The gorgeous header is also by her!)

Glad you like the N&S alternate! That icon took me so frickin' long, lol! There's seriously like 60 layers in the .xcf file since I kept having trouble getting it to look exactly right.

Well usually I haven't got much to say. I don't do icons since I have a free account and only allowed six anyway so I don't usually care, but this one piqued my curiosity. :-)

:squee: I love your cropping on these especially 22, 24, 32 & 52. I think it is quite funny that we almost got the same type of crop on some icons (thinking of the new Emma, the King's Speech). Hahaha great minds think alike especially with regards to the N&S icon! I wanted to so badly do text on it like you did, but it wouldn't work with me so I left it as is and there you go-give me exactly what I wanted to do, but couldn't. :D

I love what you did with the Band of Brothers image! It just fits so well. In all honesty-the Robin Hood, the 96 Emma, Alice, Cranford and the Northanger Abbey icons were painful to work with! I just couldn't do anything to them, but mostly it was the Robin Hood, Cranford and Alice that I had the most trouble on.

I had so much fun doing this with you and I hope you'd want to do it again sometime. :)

Thanks for liking the cropping, lol! I felt like all I was doing was negative space so I seriously needed to come up with something creative, hence the Victoria and NA one looking so...different!

I KNOW isn't that so funny?! We couldn't have done more similar work on those ones if we'd tried!! (And the N&S one!! What are the odds of us going for them both back-to-back like that??) And awww!! I still like your N&S one! You're better at the bright coloring than me.

BoB was one I had trouble with, also Robin Hood (I picked a troublesome one there haha), Alice and Northanger as well. Honestly I didn't like mine of those three but I couldn't come up with anything better. I wasn't jumping up and down on my interpretation of Cranford but I liked yours (so much detail!!)! I got lucky with the '96 Emma; it turned out only after the opening line of the novel occurred to me, ha ha.

It was an absolute blast, Jess--thank you so much for doing it with me, and I'd absolutely love to do it again sometime! :D

Aw you like that one too, eh? It gave me SO much trouble I'm just glad it turned out well enough so I don't have to hate it, ha ha! Seriously there are like 60 layers in that .xcf file it evolved so much (plus there's tons of smoke/grunge textures in there to get that smoky look). Took me for-frickin-EVER. LOL!

Been there. You find that you can't find just the right texture, so you end up using texture after texture until is the way you want it. I have .psd files like that - their file size is as large or larger than one for a whole batch put together. :)

But when it comes together, it makes the time worth it.

Ahhh, yesss! Exaaaaactly! Or I have a so-so texture and wind up editing it fifty-friggin'-million times to get it to do just what I want, and spend more time on the stupid texture than on the actual icon itself. ;P

And yes, it's always worth it when they turn out well!!
