Random: Would you like to join me in making an "Austen Awards" community? LOTR and everyone else has one, and since there are so many Austen icons I think it might work. But I don't want to do it by myself. Would you be interested?
I love the idea of these awards communities, but did you know that there was already an austen_awards community but it was shut down due to lack of participation? inishmaan was the mod. There is costume_awards but it seems that has died as well. :-(
However I'd be willing to help you out if this idea does eventually come to fruition. ;-)
Hmmm. I didn't see those. I think it might be something to consider, though. Particularly if other people would like to join in. I might post on like austen_icons and see if anyone would be interested in something like that...
I had been thinking just the other day of trying to revive costume_awards, since you can have both Austen and other costume drama icons there, and that seemed to be fairly active until that last session.
Well I am not saying I'm opposed to starting a new one. What do you think about there being two "austen awards" comms?
Are you at all interested in another icontest community? I know there's period_stills, but the idea occurred to me of a costume_stills, where instead of only movies it could be paintings and real historical dresses, too. I'm interested in your feedback on this.
LOL! I've always loved that painting!
I'm changing the security level on this entry, since Thanksgiving is over and privacy might be a good idea.
No, I think it's impratical for there to be two when there's already one that's down for the count.
Hmmmm. That might be fun. I'd need your help putting it together. But we could do film, paintings and like...stock costumes, like historical costumes from photographers.
It's very pretty. :) I liked the one of the girl in the blue dress the best.
Ha, me too. But if we keep to a strict schedule I think it wouldn't be that hard--start competitions on Monday, end them on Friday/start the poll, announce winners on Sunday (possibly with banners, or banners can come as they come, or they can be posted the next Wednesday or something). What do you think?
Oh, yes, I know. I can't imagine how they do it. Have you seen the painting of Queen Elizabeth in her red dress? The detail is amazing.
Hmmm...probably. I think that's a good practice, only I don't think we should have heart-attacks if something prevented us from posting "on time" because real life has the tendency to interfere! ;-) I'm not familiar with that community.
Ha. I will try my best not to freak out. ;) But really, I'm not opposed to there being some delays. Are you interested in putting it together (layout, etc.) or would you rather I do it, or do you want to do like the main page and I do user info, or....?
;-) Well, I try very hard to keep up with things, but you know how life gets sometimes.
If you do not want to do it then I could, or we can share, since that's a fair way to do it. Or we could have a contest and vote, but then we run the risk of having a layout we (you and I) dislike, so it's probably better not to do that. Just a thought though.
One thing -- I would ask that we start the contests after the New Year, if that is alright with you. I'm not sure I'll have the time this next month, and everyone else will probably be busy too. Do you think we should go ahead and create it and work on the layout, etc. in the mean time?
Well, I just am afraid of getting excited and stealing everything. (This happens quite a bit, and then I blush and moan over it later.) If you like, I could find a layout (or two), and we could both make a header to choose from. The other header could go into the userinfo. Then you or I could do the userinfo.
Yes, agreed all the way. I say get it all set up and then start it in 2008.
LOL! That's cute, (forgive me for thinking so!) and if you have your heart set on it, (and please don't scruple to tell me) I'm happy to let you do whichever it is you want, and then I would make mine to match yours. (e.g., if you want the layout, then I'd make the user info with a similar header and matching color scheme)
Do you think we should do movies/paintings or historical dresses from museums as the header, or do you have any ideas?
Do you have any colors in mind? (what are your favourite colors, anyway?)
Okay, sounds great to me! Are we decided on a title? (forgive me if I seem redundant, I just want to be sure to include you and get your opinion on every aspect of this)
Well, it's cute until I writhe in bed with embarrassment. (jk) Okay. To make this simple, I'll grab the layout, you do user info and default icon and stuff.
Umm. Hm. I think.... I'm leaning toward either museums or stock costumes (i.e. someone anonymous in costume). Museum dresses are hard because the people are either 1) Headless or 2) Plastic. Which is both ways a bit disturbing. Heh. Let me look around and see if I can find a good stock image, if you're interested. Maybe I'll find one and just post another comment to this thread for you to sample.
My favorite is a sage green or blues or a dark red. :) I don't know if that answers that question at all.
Costume_stills sounds great to me. I'll go start it and send you an invite.
*points at your default icon* That's my relative. *realizes you won't get the joke* That's part of my last name.
Gee, and here I thought I was the only person who did that. ;-)
Okay! *begins to plot and plan userinfo*
LOL! Yes, that is principally my problem with museum dresses, but if you crop the heads out then sometimes it doesn't matter. ;-) Another thing that would work is fashion plates!
You don't have to find images for me, that's okay. :-) Do you have a favourite period in fashion history? Regency, Georgian and Colonial, etc.?
Oooh, you've chosen some of my favourites, as well! The greens on my own layout, turquoise or soft blues, and garnet reds are all colors I love. But do not imagine I want to influence you...
*joins costume_stills*
Holly? Your surname is Hollingford, or something, right? (this is a locked entry now btw)
Oh, yes. I've found a couple of cool pictures in my search...I'll pass them on to you. :)
Umm. Probably--no, certainly colonial. I adore colonial. Though really I like them all.
lol. Don't worry about it. I'm going to tackle it tomorrow, I think, or maybe Friday since tomorrow is supposed to be my Finish Draft for Research Paper day.
Oh? One of my favourite resources is Demode's extant clothing database (http://www.demodecouture.com/realvict/). ;-)
Maybe we could change the layout seasonally. Hahaha.
Oh, BTW -- click here (http://s127.photobucket.com/albums/p153/olde_fashioned/Our%20Mutual%20Friend%20icons/) Photobucket finally decided to allow me to upload images large enough! Sorry about that.
Well, I figured, with your email address. ;-) Hollingford is the name of the villaige in Wives & Daughters, so I just had to ask!

You mean this one? I think it looks like she's wearing velvet. I'm always amazed when a painting depicts velvets realistically.
