A batch of The Phantom of the Opera icontest entries for [livejournal.com profile] poto_stillness. The vast majority are from the movie with Emmy Rossum and Gerard Butler, but there are a couple stage icons as well. There is a significant number of Raoul/Christine this time, due to a couple of Raoul-centered challenges. So all you Raoul fans lucked out! ;-)

As always, never alter my graphics, comment, credit, and enjoy!

Please, if you take anything, be so kind as to take note of the numbers of the icon(s) you're saving, since I am always experimenting with my styles and I would like to know what people like best. (This helps me so I can make more!) The numbers are above the icons.

What were you thinking, then?

Well there are tons of women who like "bad boys" and that sort of thing, so Real Life Erik might still beat out Raoul. ;-P I think for some women the danger is the whole point. As for myself, I certainly wouldn't choose Raoul, OR Erik. I'm a Mr. Knightley kinda gal!! ;-D lol.

And I would argue that Raoul is something of a knight. =)

*LAUGH* I've probably already heard it all, so it'll save you time to say so. I'm fairly certain no one views that broadway quite as I do. Frankly, the more I think about it, the words, all the varying meanings, how others react, the creepier/scarier the whole thing gets to me. I could probably launch into a whole analysis, but I don't think anyone would actually care. And, honestly, this is coming from someone who.. I KNOW 4 years ago, and probably 3 or even 2 years ago... was every bit in love with it as any other fan. Erik too was at first my favorite of the characters, and I still think Michael Crawford sings well above and beyond anyone in any musical in any character position (though he can't sing anything worthwhile outside of the Phantom role ^_^). Phantom, as a matter of fact, was mine and my sister's introduction to broadway and theater as a whole. But it just doesn't hide the... Mmm, I'm not even sure what to call it... negativity, anyway, that I now get from the whole thing, and especially from Erik himself. Raoul is the only character who is completely redeemable from this POV throughout the whole performance, though there are a few other characters that might be considered so.

Honestly, I think that if Raoul's costuming and notes were better, there would be a lot more fans. ;) A lot of superficial thought goes into choosing. I mean, num...what better than a dark-haired man in a tuxedo with a rose and a mask? Gorgeous, with an amazing voice and the best musical pieces of the whole thing... This, I think, along with the initial "Oh, his past is so sad." is what most people do not get past to see what he actually is.

Geez, I wasn't going to babble off on this. I love babbling though, and don't have many people to speak with, and never about anything very interesting. Sorry if I annoy you!

Well I'm hardly an expert Phan, so I can't really argue with you outside of the movie. ;-) Maybe I should read the book sometime!

I agree with you completely that the HAIR, and even costuming, had a lot to do with Raoul's er, um, lack of fans? If they'd just given him a haircut, and that's all, it would have really helped a lot!!! ;-P

Feel free to babble any time here you like. :-) Isn't that what journals are for? And you don't annoy me. :-)
