"The American Family Association (AFA) launched the boycott yesterday because McDonald's joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce several months ago and placed an executive on the group's board of directors, in addition to donating to the chamber."

Are you sure you want to support gay marriage with your money? Because that is what McDonald's is doing with the profits that they make when you purchase their (not very tasty and not at all healthy) food. (and how come we can't have a Straight People Chamber of Commerce??)

No more iced coffees for me! ;-D

Note: I'm posting this for the benefit of those who would be grateful to learn about this boycott. If you're looking for a flame war, argument, or to push your pro-sodomite agenda, then please don't bother to comment. Comments will be screened and deleted if necessary.

(I'm also aware that McDonald's is not the only company guilty of this, so please don't start where-would-it-all-end-how-come-you're-not-boycotting-so-and-so-too. For the record, I still boycott Disney.)

The association asked McDonald's to remove itself from the chamber but the burger-maker declined, leading to the boycott. "We're saying that there are people who support AFA who don't appreciate their dollars from the hamburgers they bought being put into an organization that's going to fight against the values they believe in," Tim Wildmon, the association's president, said yesterday.

After meeting with Wildmon, the corporation refused to withdraw their support for the Chamber. "...In fact, McDonald's strongly told us that they are reaffirming their commitment".

Boycott McDonald's

I for one say Happy Meals are not that great anyway; certainly not enough to keep me from denying the radical and liberals who enjoy forcing homosexuality down our throats my money. They don't care what we think because they think we're insignificant (and I heard an "expert" say as much on the news tonight!) and we keep giving them our money, anyway. I say let's show them!! If they don't want to listen to us, then they don't need to enjoy the music of our money that they dance to all the way to the bank, either.

I was going to post something about this! I will definitely be boycotting! Never really cared for McDonald's anyway, and I hardly eat fast food as it is, so I won't miss it too much. Do you know what other companies (besides Ford and Disney) support gay organizations?

Far too many. Heinz, for one -- I read that they aired an add in England with same sex kissing. *pukes* The AFA probably has a list on their website.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. Unfortunately, I will also be boycotting, however my boycot has to do with bigotry and closedmindedness. A pity, as I really enjoyed your icons.

I'd like to know why it is bigoted and closeminded for me to express my opinion? It is not considered closeminded for a liberal to express theirs. It's only closeminded and called bigotry if a conservative does it.

That's perfectly fine. I make no bones about my beliefs in my profile, however, and a quick read might have saved you from distressing yourself.

Why is it that people tolerate anything except true Christian beliefs? Oh, what a fallen world we live in!

Let's not play games here. You are not merely expressing your opinion, you are being extremely hurtful and incredibly disrespectful to the gay community and those who support their choices. I don't tolerate the attitude in a post like this just as I would not tolerate an atheist suddenly boycotting an organization because they supported, oh just for fun let's say... Christian organizations, for example. It is never ok to spread an agenda of hatred and intolerance for fellow human beings - whether it is aggressive and direct, or simply passive like this post. If you can justify this type of behaviour in yourself and your journal posts, then it's certainly no surprise that people are upset with you.

I think McDonald's is bad for you anyways just for health reasons. Have you seen Supersize Me? Freaked me out so bad, I didn't touch anything there for like 6 months. As for gay marriage I'm kinda have a weird stance on it or more likely I just haven't made up my mind. I'm definitely against gay hate crimes, etc. it doesn't do any body any good. I'm against gay marriage (definition of marriage is a union between a man and woman, plus its a religious ceremony), but I'm not strictly opposed for them having some sort of a union, just not marriage...

Oh and just curious why are you boycotting Disney?

The freedom of expression isn't the issue here. It's the opinion itself that is bigoted.

big·ot·ry
–noun, plural -ries.
1. stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.
2. the actions, beliefs, prejudices, etc., of a bigot.

You, yourself have remarked on your own intolerance for the homosexual community. In fact, this post requests for support in that intolerant opinion.

"Liberal" opinions can absolutely be just as bigoted (for instance, I'm sure we've all heard people bash religious choices or race, and otherwise claim to be very liberal indeed), and by the same token I've known plenty of conservative people who are openhearted and open-minded.

The issue here is that you are sharing a message of passive hate and intolerance for the entire community and their supporters.

My "liberal" opinions aren't even expressed here, though if you're truly curious, I support love and freedom of choice. Period. I am tolerant of all sexual and romantic relationships between consenting adult humans. What I am not tolerant of is hatred. So, call me closedminded if it makes you feel any better.

I heard about this months ago, I think. I remember Dad talking about it. Personally it hasn't effected me much--they still make really, really good sweet tea, which is all I get there when I can help it. (i.e. when we're not on the run and the siblings want to eat there.) Anyway... I don't have a really deep reason for an opinion on it either way. I guess part of me thinks it'd be more productive to minister to the gays/lesbians than boycott someone for supporting them.

I don't eat at McDonalds anyway, the food is disgusting and very unhealthy.

I respect everyone's opinions and beliefs, so I'm not bothered by what you said or by anyone elses opinion.

Everyone has their own religion and beliefs. But when it comes to Anatomy I believe, that men were made for women and women were made for men.

For some reason, things didn't turn out that way for all of the human species.

Another strange thing is that gays and lesbians are born that way. Why?

I guess we will never know why...

I know. Aside from taste, (or a significant lack thereof) their food is so unhealthy is not even funny.

I am against hate crimes in all shapes and forms. I oppose violence and vandalism and things of that sort, and I believe it's wrong. However I do not think it is a hate crime to express opinions that a particular act or lifestyle is a sin, and to withhold one's financial support for those reasons.

I don't really care if they live together, because I do not think the government should tell us what we can and can't do in our own homes. I do object, however, to the efforts of the homosexual community to change the definition of marriage and shove their views down the throat of the rest of the American public. If this were to go to the voters, it would never come close to passing, not even for an instant, and I think they know that, and that's why they're attempting to skirt the public and appeal to the liberal judges. [/rant]

I boycott Disney (and have for literally years) for similar behaviour as McDonald's. They have "Gay Days", promote and encourage such a lifestyle by attempting to indoctrinate innocent children.

You did? I only just heard about it, on the news, believe it or not.

I think we ought to minister them, absolutely!! They need it very much. I also think though, that how is a sinner supposed to know if they are sinning if Christians accept the sin and don't call it by its proper name?

Date: 2008-07-06 10:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
Are you suggesting that I abandon (or at least keep silent) my convictions for fear of hurting someone's feelings??

I do not hate the sinner, I hate the sin, and homosexuality is a sin. It's morally wrong, and Biblically wrong as well. God already destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for doing what the gay and lesbian community does, and regularly flaunts in the faces of the American public with their parades, media, and other methods. If they want to live their lives in their own way that is fine -- they are responsible to God for their actions -- but they need to stop trying to force the rest of us to accept and approve of their actions.

For the record, I would just as willingly boycott a company that promoted another group dedicated to a sinful lifestyle, whether or not it be heterosexual or homosexual. I'm not discriminating.

I agree!! Their burgers look like someone sat on them. 8-/

They weren't born that way. They like to say that, but it is impossible that someone is born without a choice to lead a lifestyle of sin. It's like saying someone is born a murderer, or a child molester, or a theif. It's a cop out, IMO.

I totally agree with you there! It's a total excuse people use to make themselves feel better about what they're doing.

From: [identity profile] princessjune.livejournal.com
Yes, their burgers are attrocious!*lol*

I do believe your point,it is their excuse!

We're all born with a choice on how to lead our lives. I for one love being a woman and want to marry a man one day and have children.

It's not only a Christian belief that Marriage is between a man and woman. It's sacred in many other religions across the world as well.

I agree. I didn't mean that we should water down the sin or whatever. But I don't think that it needs to be God-hates-you sort of telling someone they sin. (Not saying you're saying that. Just saying.) I think gay/lesbian people are some of the most hurt people around, which is why they begin doing that sort of thing.
