100 North & South icons
Aug. 14th, 2007 10:13 pm100 icons of the wonderful and gorgeous North & South that I made for the
obsessive100 themed icon community. For those of you unfamiliar with themed icons, half were supposed to fit a predetermined list of themes, and those icons are housed in each applicable slot. (Please note: the theme/numbers are ABOVE the icons this time)
As always textless icons are not bases. If planning to use any of my work please do unto others as you would have them do unto you. ;-) (i.e., credit and comment!)
Teasers:

Comments are appreciated as I really excercised my creative muscles for this batch and I'd love to know what you all think.
I've added a poll at the bottom of this post just for fun! I've grouped the questions in 10 batches of 10 since you can't have one question with 100 points. ;-) Currently this stupid poll is on strike. Hmmm. Where's Boucher when you need him? ;-P

Date: 2007-08-19 11:55 am (UTC)I enjoyed the movie! It was different than the Jane Austen films in that the story involved both the working class and the upper class.John Thornton was an interesting character.Though he was a mill owner, he had started as a worker. He was also concerned for the people who worked for him.
Like Austen's films, it had misunderstandings between the main characters and you weren't sure if they would get together.
Did the book end like the movie or did it mention their wedding?

Date: 2007-08-20 01:44 am (UTC)That's great! Yes, I liked the interactions between the classes as well. I felt this was more of a social drama of greater "historical importance" than JA's drawing room dramas. ;-) It's like comparing apples to oranges, but I know what you mean about the similarites to P&P and such.
The ending is *totally* different in the book than the movie, and IMVHO this is one of those (very) rare occurances that the movie's is better. Elizabeth Gaskell herself expressed dissatisfaction with the ending, but she was stressed for time due to the fact she writing for Dickens' Household Words publication. I've linked the last chapter of the novel for you HERE (http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?pageno=362&fk_files=5254), over at Project Gutenberg, if you'd like to read it. ;-)
