Since so many expressed fond memories of Christy when I posted my last batch, I decided to make a second, this time with some of the other characters and not just Christy. And yes, there are some of Christy and David, as well as Christy and Neil. ;-)

Okay. Then you better read the book. I doubt what I was going to say would constitute a true "spoiler" but if you've forgotten a lot then it's best to probably just remain blissfully ignorant. ;-)

Watch which Emma? Because the Gwyneth Paltrow version makes even ME want to stab out my eyes!!! I hate it with a passion, while I adore the Kate Beckinsale version. *pointstoicon* Which version did you see?

(once you get out of the Lowood school the book really picks up, I promise!! The first part is the dull part, lol.) I've seen lots of JE adaptations. There ARE lots, lol! The best two are the new Toby Stephens/Ruth Wilson and the '80s Timothy Dalton/Zelah Clarke version. If only one could combine the two then it would be perfect. I enjoyed the Samantha Morton/Ciaran Hinds version far more than I anticipated, and I credit that mostly to CH's brilliant acting. ;-) I think he's very talented. (I mean, he SINGS in PotO! 'Nuff said!)

Ignorance is bliss!

Please don't hit, but I think it was the Kate Beckinsale one... However, in its defense, I don't think I was in the right mindset.

Surprisingly, I'm not bored with the beginning of JE. I just realize that it wouldn't make a good movie. :)

And now I am going to disappear for some time to sleep! Night!

I won't hit you, lol. It's one of my favourite JA adaptations, but I do understand why people don't like it. It's not as "happy-go-lucky" romcom as some JAs. But I think the GP version is TOO romcom. Emma is too simple and not complex enough, as is Harriet. Mostly people complain about the grouchy Mark Strong in the KB Emma, but he grows on you. ;-D Frank Churchill is muey perfecto in that version, IMO!! As is Jane Fairfax -- ever since I saw her [Olivia Williams] in that movie I thought she would make the perfect Jane Austen, and lo and behold, they cast her as Jane in Miss Austen Regrets!! :-D Have you seen that one yet?

I have legitimate things to do today, though, which is why going to bed before four was beneficial.

I will have to try Emma again, then. But it'll be next week at least. My friend is staying with me and doesn't like period films. Makes me sad.

I think the issue I had with the film was KB getting on my nerves. Not sure why. I think it might be the nose. :)

Ahhh. Well, I can understand that. I think it helps if you take the character of Emma in a bit of a "deeper" way than just her outer shell. At first glance, she's unbearable, snobbish, selfish, and meddling, but she *does* have a good heart. She tries to be helpful (even if it's in her own misguided way!) and she is very kind to most of the people in her life, her father especially. I think she's not dissimilar to Marianne Dashwood -- high-strung, thinks with her heart rather than her head, spoiled, somewhat selfish, a bit headstrong, and in very great need of a reality check. ;-P lol. But one of her most redeeming qualities IMO is that she learns from her mistakes. :-)
