I've entered in so many icontests and all the icons are cluttering up my harddrive. ;-) I thought I'd share them here, like the rest of my work. Treat them exactly as you would another of my icons: comment to let me know which one(s) you're taking, and credit me, please. ;-)

Thanks! That's Isabella Thorpe from the new ITV Northanger Abbey. The actress is Carey Mulligan -- you may recognize her from the Keira Knightley P&P or from Bleak House. ;-)

I'm really sorry if I'm bothering you by posting on your personal journal ... this is sort of a one time thiny. Anyway, I really enjoy the icons you've made for [livejournal.com profile] romance_stills and I just thought I'd let you know that [livejournal.com profile] silver_icontest is looking for some really good entries. We have a solid fan base, but could always use a few new contestants to mix it up a little.

Er. I hope that makes sense x_x

Anyway, I figured I'd just try. Can't blame me for that, eh? It's a 1 icon per each section of the contest only, which means no multiple winners for the same section along with really great competition. I'm rambling. Go me.

Anyway, thanks for reading this. Yup. And don't throw any rotten fruit at me please @@. Fresh fruit I can live with, but rotten just smells bad ...

P.S. Lovely.

It's not a bother, and although I'm flattered by your invitation, I haven't made any icons for [livejournal.com profile] romance_stills, and I don't have the time right now to compete in yet another icontest. Thank you for asking though! :-)

Hello there, I came across your page while looking for new icons and I'd like to add you as a friend. I just wanted to leave a comment letting you know. It seems we share an opinion regarding a couple things anyhow, and I'd like to make your acquaintance. My name is Elizabeth.
best wishes, EQZ

Hello back to you! Thanks for the friending, and nice to "meet" you. ;-P Perhaps we could exchange questions in order to "get aquainted?" I should like to know some of your beliefs, as well as what you like to do in your spare time. What are some of your favourite books and movies? I'll be happy to answer any questions you'd like to throw at me. ;-)

My name is Lauren, and I love babies! (May I ask how old is your daughter, and how old are you? I'm almost 21.)

Hello Lauren :)
First, sorry about the delay in response! I've been writing bits on notepad for a few days now.
I can't remember the last time someone asked me about my beliefs. Please share some of yours with me. I look forward to learning of them.

My greatest conviction is of the need for salvation through Jesus Christ alone and the transformative power of knowing God. I think the glory of God is everything, but one cannot live this way by her own will. It is incompatible with self-reliance--which I believe is the beginning and end of religious behavior and legalism. Still, it is easy to spend the majority of daily life relying on one's own strength and in so doing, being robbed of the peace of God and spiritual maturity. True freedom comes in abiding in Him. My heart's desire is to know Him.

Some of my other beliefs... That once you have a child, you have a responsibility to put him/her before any notion of what you envisioned for your life before. ... That art is more than the mere product of inspiration. ...That dancing is the best exercise and everyone should have a ready playlist, (yoga is a close second). Since my daughter was born I've learned just what a blessing children are to their parents. I love babies too, but I never saw this coming.

My favorite books are lately the ones I've just read because I'm reading through Jane Austin's works and she's marvelous. I finished Mansfield Park a month ago and was sad when I turned the last page. I wanted to continue with Fanny. She's lovely. I feel compelled to write a paper defending her against the materialism and fickle principles that inform contemporary opinion and completely mistake her; though, I doubt I will without some academic motivation. I learned a lot about myself by reading; things get sorted out or introduced; there's so much to be gained. I'm on Northanger Abbey now.

I highly recommend Paul Fussell's Poetic Meter & Poetic Form for inspiration and knowledge (if you like poetry, do you?). It's one of my favorite books regarding poetry. Also, a book called Western Wind, by John Frederick Nims, is good for flipping to a random page. I like Timothy Steele's All the Fun's in How You Say A Thing and Missing Measures. I write some; though hardly at all since Sophia arrived in late December. She's five months old and a wonder! I am 24 going on 25 in July (but 25??--it's strange. I feel as young and spry as ever at a quarter century. It only sounds old--for the time being).
Other favorites are Because We Love Him, by Clyde Cranford (on the Christian life); Pride and Prejudice; Crime and Punishment by Fydor Dostoyevsky; The Gospel and Romans; The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa; Tennyson's In Memoriam (especially); the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca and Pablo Neruda; the poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva; there are many poems in particular which I am attached to. What are some of your favorites books or authors?

Films... I love Shakespeare in Love, La Flor de Mi Secreto, My Fair Lady, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless, there are others that aren't coming to mind...

I was listening to a podcast this afternoon which compelled me to consider by way of post-it note: "what if everything you've known of earthly securities were to fail?" What do you think?

And, what are your thoughts on the art of femininity? Well, I look forward to hearing from you when you have some time!
Best wishes :)

Hello back to you Elizabeth!

No worries about delays. Seriously, you have a baby and a husband -- real life comes first!

Your beliefs: sounds so far like we agree! ;-) Thank you for taking the time to share them with me. As for my own, feel free to question, but I'll try to share some here, but I'm warning you that I fear I'm not as eloquent on the subject as you! To borrow from my profile, I believe in modest femininity, (i.e. no plunging necklines, short skirts/shorts, etc.) pure living, (no drugs etc.) and I wear dresses and/or skirts only, based on my convictions regarding Deut 22:5 and similar verses. I also wholly believe in courtship, not dating in the modern sense of "musical chairs" with members of the opposite sex. I am conservative, somewhat (okay, very!) outspoken, and completely pro-life. I don't condemn others who differ from me, but I do reserve the right to disagree!

What do you mean by that art is more than inspiration? Are you speaking of talent and/or dedication?

Jane Austen: As you've probably noticed from my blog I'm a very enthusiastic fan of hers. ;-) I loved Northanger Abbey, especially because of Henry and Eleanor's relationship. It reminds me of my brother and I.

I'm not particularly interested in poetry, because I find it rather dull and I don't think I'm the type of person that "gets" or understands it easily. There are some, however, that I like, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule. I prefer historical fiction, and I have read, re-read, and re-read again some of the Christian series, like The Russians and the Corrie Bell Hollister books, both by Michael Philips and Judith Pella. I love Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, and I was amazed and moved by the sheer Christianity.

Movies (not in order): Gods and Generals, Pride & Prejudice (the 1995 A&E version), the Kate Beckinsale adaptation of Emma, Northanger Abbey (1986 since I've yet to see the new), Sense & Sensibility, Wives & Daughters, Lorna Doone (the new one), and Master & Commander, all come to mind.

You write? That's wonderful! I've always dreamed of writing books, but I haven't the talent, I'm afraid.

"what if everything you've known of earthly securities were to fail?"
Hmmm, that's hard! Is this a trick question? lol. Do you mean if everything in life were to fall apart, and everyone was to desert me? I think I'd curl up in a dark corner and cry. ;-) What about you?

The Art of Femininity, oh dear, I suppose I was asking for that one with it emblazoned on my titlebar! ;-) I suppose I mean that being a woman is more of a conscious effort, rather than a "condition" or state. I think we ought to try to look feminine, clean, and "presentable" since we are representatives of God and His people. For me, this means trying my best to look nice, and act, as long as dress, modestly. Does that help?

Have a great week!
~ Lauren :-)
