Wait a minute, you might say. The Lone Ranger? Isn't that some cheesy old TV show from a million years ago with a "masked avenger" on a white stallion, as he defeats the outlaws and then rides away into the sunset? Yes, it was a TV show, and an old one at that. I've watched it, and it doesn't have the highest production values of anything I've ever seen, but I still think it's pretty good for it's day. Mostly I like the purity of the plots, how the good guys defeat the bad guys, without crossing the line and joining them in wrong doing.

I came across this in an article (strangely enough from a link on the Ramble board over at the Republic of Pemberley), but I never knew the Lone Ranger had a creed, nor have I ever seen it before. I like it a lot, and I think it would be a good standard to live by.

It's really too bad that there are precious heroes these days who are like The Lone Ranger. Come to think of it, it's too bad more real people don't live by these rules, too.

The Lone Ranger Creed

by Fran Striker

"I believe that to have a friend,
a man must be one.

That all men are created equal
and that everyone has within himself
the power to make this a better world.

That God put the firewood there
but that every man
must gather and light it himself.

In being prepared
physically, mentally, and morally
to fight when necessary
for that which is right.

That a man should make the most
of what equipment he has.

That 'This government,
of the people, by the people
and for the people'
shall live always.

That men should live by
the rule of what is best
for the greatest number.

That sooner or later...
somewhere...somehow...
we must settle with the world
and make payment for what we have taken.

That all things change but truth,
and that truth alone, lives on forever.

In my Creator, my country, my fellow man."

Oh I love this--in fact, I remember that when Clayton Moore died, our paper printed this--and I cut it out--I might still have it lying somewhere in fact...thanks ever so much for posting this!

You're welcome! ;-) I still like it, even though it's a little bit out-dated.

I haven't seen the Lone Ranger in fooorever. But my dad has always liked it. I really like the creed... It's so cool that a popular TV show was so rooted in religon.

Me neither, but I've seen a fair number of them. I've always loved westerns, and I even like Bonanza, too. ;-)

Yeah, imagine that!! Can't have that nowadays. :-(

I remember hearing about this a *long* time ago as a child. Mom and dad watched *everything* relating to the 'law' and the history of it.

So Robert and I sat through the black and white version, the color updated version and the movies that came afterward.

I think at the time, especially in Oklahoma, the Lone Ranger was pretty popular.

Thanks for reprinting it, it brings back fond memories. =)

Really? That's neat. I'm a sucker for a good western. ;-)

Is he still?

My pleasure!

No you don't hear about him as much anymore. Westerns are still popular here though. =)

BTW, have you ever seen the Vicar of Dibley?

That's good. :-)

No, not unless you count 30 seconds of it on PBS? Why?

I was just wondering because it is most hysterically funny. I caught it by accident after watching Masterpiece (thanks to your influence I'm watching it more often.) and near the end of the series, Richard Armitage (sp?) was the Vicar's fiancee.

It was strange to see him as a Londoner accountant. He looked more thin or something. =) He looked very yummy though contemporary wise.

*HUGS* Hope all is well with you and your family. =)

Ah. Well I am aware that RA (and yes you spelt his name right!) plays her fiancee, but I confess I am rather at a loss as to what he would see in her!!

Now stop that!

Aww, thank you, and I hope the same holds true for you? :-D
