Icons from Master & Commander: The Far Side of the World. You can blame [livejournal.com profile] regency_stills for these! ;-) While I typically prefer movies with at least *one* woman in them, this is among the few exceptions to the rule. I cannot help but regard it as a sort of "what Jane Austen's naval heroes did when they weren't dancing at balls". LOL! Oh, and the costumes are faaabulous...

You're probably right! I think it's very interesting to note how many elements of Persuasion and even Mansfield Park that Patrick O'Brian borrowed. (I've not read any PoB, but I've read about them online)
