Osama bin Laden dead?

Well, unless you live in a cave, you've surely heard the news that it's official--Osama bin Laden is dead. (Maybe.) While I'd love to be certain of (and rejoice over) the fact that the master butcher has indeed been sent to hell, the suspicious part of me can't help but be very curious as to why photos have not been already released, since they supposedly do exist. And WHY would they dump the body into the sea?!!?!?

I don't care if it was done accordance with Islamic custom or not--this man is responsible for the worst attacks on American soil in history and we give him an honourable burial before the American people are positively assured he's no longer a threat??? What's wrong with this picture??

Maybe we should get Donald Trump to demand the photographic evidence, since he seems to be pretty good at succeeding in in that department.

From what I understand, burying him at sea was done to deny his followers a place to come and worship him after death. It does make sense not to allow his body to be given proper burial, etc. I don't know much about what those rites would be so I am only saying it as an assumption.

I agree about wanting to see photos. I mean how can you not have killed Public Enemy #1 and NOT taken professional photographs aboard ship? They knew this was the mission. I think they're just waiting on them. Does make me wonder if someone will come out with a cell phone picture of him.

I honestly don't know if they'll be released ONLY because I think a few might have taken pictures of him with things shoved up certain body parts or stomped on, etc. that will fuel Muslim outcry.

Oh yeah cuz you know some knucklehead will be stupid enough to post a picture of him and his buddies smiling over the dead body of Bin Laden (stomped or violated or not). It'll end up on Twitter or FB and the Muslim response will be horrific.

You know they get their panties in a twist for just about anything. You can't even bring up the possibility that the Qur'an was written over time and not in one sitting by a man who couldn't even read or write.

I do wonder though if he got his 70 virgins or realized that it was all a lie. LOL!

I don't know if endlessdeep is on your f-list but she posted a video skit from robin williams done a few years ago and Bin Laden is in hell and he's getting kicked by Washington and all these military leaders of history and Bin Laden is going, "Wait, where is my 70 virgins?" And one of them go, "No, your reward is 70 VIRGINIANS!" :D

One does have to wonder if there is a lack of virgins in their region since I would assume having one would be enough, but 70?

Oh and he was in the lap luxury in that compound! No "cave" for him. I think the cave was sort of like a set for him. "Oh I'll let the west think I renounced the luxury I grew up with."

Well I agree with those sentiments, but somehow it just seems a bit premature to dump the evidence so soon...

buried to sea so there is no shrine for his followers to worship and Islamic tradition requires the body to be "buried" within 24 hours so that's why it was done so fast.

In terms of an "honorable burial" it is to say to the Muslims, etc. "Look we RESPECT your religion." that's all it is. Honestly I think a few people stomped on him and shoved things up his body parts, etc.

I have a TON of questions regarding how it happened, etc. I want to know if he was injured from the previous raid that has been suggested he had been, but every "taped" release never showed him on video again.

From what I've read / heard he refused to surrender and then a navy seal or two shot him in the head twice and then took him. Was it necessary to shoot him in the head? Why couldn't they "injure him" and bring him in like they did for Saddam? Is it because whose jurisdiction he becomes? Put him in holding cell and make him listen to Justin Bieber.

I tell you this-Pakistan has some serious questions to answer.

With our court system, I would fear he'd get released. I'm glad he's dead. There, I said it. Glad. I wouldn't trust our courts to do anything right.

Although they could have done the Beiber torture before death, IMO. LOL! He would have killed himself before we could.

Buried at sea I can understand, but the 24 hour custom I don't care about and think the burial should have been held off a tad bit longer just to make sure we were done with the body first. I suppose they could have already finished with it, but still...

What makes you think they defiled his corpse?

I heard he was "participating" in the firefight which was why he was taken out. And a head shot is a sure-fire way to neutralize a threat... ;)

I honestly believe it was done that fast to respect Islam and to show them that "we respect their religion" and by doing that burying him by the next call to prayer. Plus there's the question of which country would take the body. Saudi Arabia was asked according to some articles I've read and they wouldn't take him and there's the question of the bin laden family would have wanted him.

There's no 100% proof he was participating. Those reports saying he was conflict with others that say he wasn't so right now there's no proof he was. I know I read that the second shot was to make sure he was dead. I have this vision of the Navy Seal saying to him, "hasta la vista," LOL!

Given the fact the man has done what he has I'm sure there was at least one person who stomped on him or even urinated on him. Look at the prisoners at Guantánamo and how some of them were treated.

No Pakistan didn't even know we were going in. Some official there was asking why they weren't notified. There are a lot more questions that answers. Do I think he was being hidden and protected by some high ranking Pakistani officials? yeah I do especially if the man was living in a $1 million dollar house. The best response I heard to his location being found was, "guess he now regrets letting his iPhone turn on his location." LOL!

We found his info though via waterboarding back in 2007 so those that believe that you don't get anything out of it well this time we did.

I heard that it was a go in and kill him and that taking him as hostage wasn't an option. They didn't want the long trial and difficulty of a prisoner. As for the pictures I heard that it is up to Obama as to if and when those are released. If he says yes we get to see them and if not we just have thier word on it.

This. Would you really want the possibility of someone attempting to get him out of prison? Where would you hold him? Besides that, think of how many Americans would attempt to storm the prison just to get their chance to be the one to kill him -and the public outcry here if we even attempted to try the vigilante? Killing him was a simple "He's dead. No one to 'rescue', no one for anyone else to attempt to kill and possibly endanger other lives in the process," scenario.

The burial at sea was the "no shrine" that many others have pointed out. With no body, there's no place to declare a holy spot of the new "prophet".

Honestly, the moment I heard he was dead, I screamed with joy -as did the other lady in the room. We hugged each other and ran around the hotel telling everyone we saw. It really took 18 years, 2 months, and 5 days but "only" 9 years, 7 months, and 20 days since the second World Trade center bombing/first bombing of the Pentagon. We got him. He's dead. Thank G-d.

Oh yes, I agree that the last thing we needed was to take him alive. As we can see its been so much easier knowing that he is dead and thats the end of it. Everyone is relieved and can rest easy without having to wait for justice to be done.

The articles I was reading stated that if he had thrown down his weapon and surrendered, he would have been captured, but it was deemed unlikely, and he was actively shooting at our guys so he had to be taken out as predicted.

It was on one of our news channels last night - but now that same channel is saying it was a fake ! adding that America needs to see 'genuine' photos as proof - sorry to raise your hopes, I guess it's a waiting game still.

Yeah, definitely, which was why I had to go back and look. I don't have much doubt in the matter though since they're doing dna testing and whatnot. I don't like Obama or anything but I feel okay trusting him on this one since it was our troops who got it done.

I understand why they dumped the body into the sea, but what a pity! My dad says he thinks it should have gone on a grand tour of the USA, and I agree. But obviously that could never happen. *sigh*

I agree...the lack of photos and details about how everything unfolded is a little....surprising but I`m hoping that they`ll slowly release more information....
Part of me still says that all this is true though. The fact that it was so hush-hush and then the President comes and makes the big announcement etc etc. It can`t be a conspiracy right?

I believe that it's true but they should have produced some sort of evidence.

I think that they haven't released the pictures in fear of some sort of retaliation. People from his country would see it as a great disrespect and would retaliate quickly. Even though Bin Laden is dead, the war is far from over.

I don't doubt that Al-Qaeda is plotting something to seek revenge at this very moment.

Hmm--I was a bit wary when I first heard the news, in light of the fact that I'm still not hearing much--(our newspaper carried the story that there was a video of Bin Laden being taken out, but that only some of the white house staff had viewed it)--while I am inclined, for now, to think the man probably is dead and gone. (At least I hope so)

OK--if it were say a Muslim Arabic interpreter who'd been killed helping us, then I'd have no problem whatsoever with the sort of proper burial his family wanted, even if I was not a fan of his religion.

But this guy didn't deserve an honorable anything. He was a sick, sick, evil, warped person who brought nothing but pain and suffering to innocent people all over the world. (The people who perished on 9/11, the troops from various nations who have since spent years fighting a war in the Middle East--people can debate over whether the war is "necessary" but there's no doubt it would not have happened without 9/11., often without popular support or much in the way of a morale boost. Not to mention even his "fellow" Muslims he supposedly cared so much about, given the unpleasant people with a Middle Eastern background have to endure nowadays, even from supposedly politically correct types. ) The man is behind all this and more--he cut a swath of evil and left not a sliver of good in his wake during his time on earth.

Unfortunately, I doubt the Trumpster, or any political pundit from any side of the spectrum--will produce photographic evidence if the press hasn't released it. (Even if the photos were extremely graphic, I imagine they would have been released through some channels by now!)

Now, they're coming up with different stories everyday!

The Navy Seals who brought down Bin Laden have a different story. They should have waited for the correct story before they said anything at all.

Even now, if they show the pictures it will be too late. People will wonder why it's taking them so long to show the pictures. Some will think that the pictures are photoshopped.
