Shamelessly stolen from my brother's blog and shared here because this is something serious that I think all Americans need to know about.
Do you want a foreign court system or the UN telling you how you can raise your own children? This flies in the face of every freedom America stands for, and it needs to be defeated.
If you're less politically inclined (like me) then there is nothing wrong with invoking the power of prayer. Spreading the word, too, is a powerful weapon, so don't be afraid to post about it if you feel inclined! Nasty comments are a small price to pay when it comes to basic liberties.
ParentalRights.org is one of the foremost organizations trying to get an ammendment passed which would secure the rights of every American parent. On March 31st, 2009, the Parental Rights Amendment was introduced to the 111th Congress, and assigned a house bill number: H.J.Res. 42 (House Joint Resolution 42).
More on the ammendment
The threat:
Parents would no longer be able to administer reasonable spankings to their children.
Children would have the ability to choose their own religion while parents would only have the authority to give their children advice about religion.
The best interest of the child principle would give the government the ability to override every decision made by every parent if a government worker disagreed with the parent’s decision.
A child’s “right to be heard” would allow him (or her) to seek governmental review of every parental decision with which the child disagreed.
According to existing interpretation, it would be illegal for a nation to spend more on national defense than it does on children’s welfare.
Children would acquire a legally enforceable right to leisure.
Teaching children about Christianity in schools has been held to be out of compliance with the CRC.
Allowing parents to opt their children out of sex education has been held to be out of compliance with the CRC.
Children would have the right to reproductive health information and services, including abortions, without parental knowledge or consent.
from 20 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
What we have is nothing less than an open assault on the foundation of the family and thus a lightly-veiled attack on things such as homeschooling, Christianity, and not to mention our God-given, Constitution-recognized freedoms.

The solution:
Introducing the 10-and-2 Campaign
Parental rights in America are now in a precarious situation, facing possible destruction by federal court judges who deny the existence of parental rights, as well as by judges who refuse to recognize them because they are not explicitly protected in the Constitution. Added to these internal threats is the growing danger of international law which threatens to intrude upon the child-parent relationship.
The only way to shield this vital relationship from the onslaught of government control is by amending the Constitution to protect parental rights. It is the only way to ensure that parental rights are protected for this generation and the next.
How you can help:
Join the fight by donating and/or signing the petition.
Become a 10-and-2 Representative.
If you're interested in reading more on this topic, obviously ParentalRights.org is a great place to start. My brother has been covering this tirelessly on his own blog, with merely two examples here and here.
And even if you do nothing else, pray, and pray hard!
