Christmas is being able to enjoy a nice, quiet day at home with your family. Despite woes and worries, troubles and problems, bleak outlooks, and uncertain futures, all are forgotten for the expanse of a day.

Christmas is wearing ridiculous festive socks with trees, snowflakes, and/or penguins and not feeling like a dork.

Christmas is the smell of a turkey dinner roasting in the oven all afternoon.

Christmas is cramming as many marshmallows into a mug of hot chocolate as humanly possible, before scalding your tongue after taking a sip before giving it time to cool.

Christmas is waiting with barely-contained excitement as you watch others open the gifts you know they will love. Forget getting presents -- I long ago learned that the best gift truly is giving.

Christmas is watching my brother's face light up as he tears shreds into the wrapping hiding his copy of The Dark Knight and knowing exactly what movie we'll be watching tonight after dinner. ;-P

Christmas is bringing out the best dishes and setting the table with all the fancy linens (Martha Stewart red plaid tablecloth with matching napkins).

Christmas is being given the Heavenly gift of love and friendship, of closeness and memories, and warmth in spite of cold weather.

And the one thing that makes all of the above just a little bit better, is appropriate holiday weather! In my case, that's rain. We don't get snow where I live. ;-) A wet Christmas is a white Christmas in my book! ;-D

I agree. It was in the 70s today, but overcast. It was supposed to rain. It never did. It may come tomorrow. I say, if it's going to be warm on Christmas, it needs to rain. It totally makes up for it not being cold.

Christmas is being able to sit down in front of a computer after a long(but overall happy) day and read entries like this from your friends.

* hugs *
Merry Christmas :-D !

Christmas is finding that feeling of content making its presence known after wondering if it would come all.

Ours was small and quiet.

Mom got everything finished and looking nice (including our tree which shrunk to 4 feet this year) just in time.

Just me and the folks, but "Santa" came anyway. :)

Merry Christmas! and hugs

A wonderful post! These are all the things I love about Christmas. :)

So you got your brother a copy of The Dark Knight too? Well, well! Great minds think alike... and so do ours! ;P My family watched it today. It was just as good as I remembered. I shall have to write a long, philosophical post about it someday.

Giving instead of getting is indeed the truest joy in life.

I hope you enjoyed watching The Dark Knight. I love that movie so much more than I should. But then, Christian Bale is an addiction for me and one I'm not giving up anytime soon, LoL.

Merry Christmas!

I agree! I love the rain, plus I'm not so sure I'm the type who'd enjoy shoveling snow...;-P

Thank you! ;-)

Yes indeed I did! :-D I had planned it since the day after we saw the movie together, but of course then he goes and puts it at the top of his list. :-P

We watched it straight through Christmas night, and some snippets and extras since. I agree that it's just as good as the first time, if not better. I've noticed a lot more things. Plus the extras are fun!

I shall have to write a long, philosophical post about it someday.

Ahhh...I could easily do the same! Only I think I'd bore my flist out of their minds with my ridiculous ramblings...;-P

Yes, he certainly can. And it doesn't hurt that he's soooooooo pretty. ;)

I'm listening to the Newsies soundtrack right now and can picture every single one of the scenes, LoL.

Which of his movies is your favorite?

LOL! I've never seen Newsies, actually. And as for my favourite, I've only seen a few, so I think I'd have to say that Batman Begins/The Dark Knight are my favourites. ;-D What about you, which is yours?

Wow, never seen Newsies? I'm sure you'd love it, providing you enjoy musicals. It's probably the best musical I've seen since a final few in the 60s and that's not just because it's Christian Bale. The whole film is a frolicking good time.

My favorite of Bale's films is either Newsies, the Batman movies, or Equilibrium. But those Batman films are just so awesome it's hard to imagine anything topping them in teh favoritism category.

Nope, and I hadn't even heard of it until came across it online by accident. ;-) I actually (believe it or not) am not a big fan of musicals, even less so if they break out in song on the city streets!! O.o

Does he actually sing in Newsies? That would be rather amusing to see....

I haven't seen Equilibrium, either. I've seen The Prestige, Little Women, Rescue Dawn, 3:10 to Yuma, Reign of Fire (but that was when it came out, long before I knew to pay attention to him), and of course Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. ;-)

Surprising as it may seem, yes, Christian Bale does sing in Newsies and quite brilliantly. I think he sang on a regular basis as a child since he also sings in Empire of the Sun, his film debut. His numbers in Newsies are always my favorites. But since musicals aren't your thing, you probably wouldn't enjoy Newsies since they definitely do break into song in the streets, LoL.

What did you think of The Prestige? I saw it once and it gave me the serious creeps.

Here's a link to one of Christian's songs: Santa Fe, if you're interested. At least it'll give you an idea about the movie. :)

Whoo boy, I might just have to rent that some day for a good laugh! I confess I got a big laugh out of re-watching Little Women recently and watching "Batman" dance around with Jo, lol. ;-P

I need to see Empire of the Sun.

Hmmmm, well, it was definitely a fascinating movie, especially from an intellectual and visual aspect, but it wasn't something I'd rush out and buy, you know? The ending took me 110% by surprise! I didn't see that coming at all...(about CB's character, I mean) And aside from getting a big kick out of watching Batman, Alfred, and Wolverine being directed by Christopher Nolan (hahaha) I thought it was very well made. It wasn't "my kinda movie" though, I guess. *shrug* I'm not sure why I didn't like it more than I did, really. What specifically gave you the creeps? (the cats and the hats made me go wide-eyed, lol)
