Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] anodiel and placed behind a cut due to some Renaissance nudes.

So do you all think this sounds like me, or not? ;-P

The Renaissance was a cultural movement that profoundly affected European intellectual life. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to the rest of Europe by the 16th century, its influence affected literature, philosopy, religion, art, politics, science, and all other aspects of intellectual enquiry. Renaissance artists looked at the human aspect of life in their art. They did not reject religion but tended to look at it in it's purest form to create visions they thought depicted the ideals of religion. Painters of this time had their own style and created works based on morality, religion, and human nature. Many of the paintings depicted what they believed to be the corrupt nature of man.

People that like Renaissance paintings like things that are more challenging. They tend to have a high emotional stability. They also tend to be more concientious then average. They have a basic understanding of human nature and therefore are not easily surprised by anything that people may do. They enjoy life and enjoy living. They are very aware of their own mortality but do not dwell on the end but what they are doing in the present. They enjoy learning, but may tend to be a bit more closed minded to new ideas as they feel that the viewpoint they have has been well researched and considered. These people are more old fashioned and not quite as progressive. They enjoy the finer things in life like comfort, a good meal, and homelife. They tend to be more spiritual or religious by nature. They are open to new aesthetic experiences.

Balanced, Secure, and Realistic.

Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.

"They are open to new aesthetic experiences." I say cool beans to your quiz, coming from an 'Impressionist'. I liked this quiz, but I found it difficult because sometimes I didn't like any of paintings given.

Yes. I do agree that it describes you!

I actually think I'm a little of both this and the Impressionists result.

Hey I know you are really into period clothing and I think I'm going to paint some victorian dresses/clothing; but I haven't found any good references.

Do you know of any good sites?

Date: 2008-10-29 03:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
Ooh, my kinda stuff!! ;-P That sounds like fun.

I've got literally tons of links, but not so many "links of links" of lots of different dresses. THIS SITE (http://www.demodecouture.com/realvict/) is one of the best I've found if you want real surviving garments. It helps that it's broken down by type.

If you tell me what decade you're going for specifically, then I'll be able to help you further! :-)

Are you opposed to using art and paintings as inspiration?

Date: 2008-10-30 12:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
:-)

I had to look that one up because I'm not familiar with that title. I know it as Tristan and Isolde -- yay! :-D

Date: 2008-10-31 03:34 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sabrinafair2.livejournal.com
Thanks for the link!

Um, as for the decades I don't really know, I'm not that specific. To me it was just really hard to get any good pics of photographs of actual dresses during any period from Regency to Victorian eras.

I'm not strictly opposed, but I you could say I prefer photos.

From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
My pleasure!

So are you just trying to find pics of something to use as inspiration, then? As for photos it's hard for me to tell you where to look if I don't know what eras you're going for, but Wikipedia (don't laugh) does entries broken down by decade that you can browse with photos organized by date. You could try searching "Victorian fashion" and that sort of thing.

Well just curious, because some artists' works (*coughTissotcough*) are rather like photographs... ;-D
