olde_fashioned: (18th century -- Copley blue sleeves)
[personal profile] olde_fashioned
Almost three dozen icons of one of my favourite subjects: 18th Century art and fashions! 8-D Most of these are by Thomas Gainsborough, but there are a few John Singleton Copley icons, as well two wallpapers.

I've preserved the titles of the paintings at the bottom and have numbered them to correspond with their sucessive icons. ;-) Mostly minimal this time around, because I felt it suited the portraits better. They're so lovely, they don't need any textures.

And yes I made one of Blue Boy. ;-P

As always, never alter my graphics, comment, credit, and enjoy!

Please, if you take anything, be so kind as to take note of the numbers of the icon(s) you're saving, since I am always experimenting with my styles and I would like to know what people like best. (This helps me so I can make more!) The numbers are above the icons. ;-)

A bit of a promotion. ;-) The Dreamer is a charming web comic set during the American Revolution, but with a modern twist. A teenaged girl finds herself transported back into the midst of war and surrounded by some very intriguing characters from our historical past.

A friend introduced me to this, and as she so delicately put it, it does have have a little *ahem* "skin" due to the period costumes on the ladies, as well as a teensy bit of language, but so far there has been nothing overly objectionable. I've enjoyed it so far, and hope it continues in the same vein that it has begun. :-)

Stealing Grace Elliot wallpaper, thanks!
It would be great to boost the contrast on some of these images to make the colours and textures of the sumptuous silks and satins just pop!

I love #5's dress!! She was in one of my history books and I've always loved that picture.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I was trying to avoid over-contrasting this batch. ;-)

Enjoy your wallpaper!

these are gorgeous! I took 003, 033 and 034 of the icons and both of the wallpapers (because they just look absolutely wonderful xD) In my art history classes we mostly skip portrait/landscape painters like Gainsborough but I just really love them. Luckily there are people on here who share that opinion and make such beautiful icons ;D

I apologize for being off-topic, but as it was at the end of the post (and thus a part of it), it's fair game. ;-) But anyway, "A Whiter Shade of Pale" used to be a favorite piece of mine to play on the piano a year or so back. Perhaps I could find a recording (or make one) and send it to you....

The icons are quite good, by the way. I particularly like #34, but they're all well done.

I nabbed the two wallpapers - thank you! <3 Sarah Siddons. Is there anything else you could do on the theatrical theme? I've got really into Mary Robinson and the plays of Joanna Baillie recently. xxx

Oh, wow, these are gorgeous! My particular favorites are 4, 5, 6, 22, 23, and 31!

(Also, I started reading The Dreamer, and I am rather shamelessly hooked. It's just annoying that she hasn't figured out that her Warren is not the Warren.)

Oh gosh, these icons and wallpapers are gorgeous! Simply fabulous. I'll for sure be taking 003 and 009 for now, but I may be back for more (in which case I'll let you know which ones I've snagged); I'll credit, of course. Thank you! :D

Thank you! And I hate it when things about art ignore the great masters and go for the nude stuff rather than the pretty clothes. Just because it's less provacotive or controversial doesn't make it any less worthy or talented. ;-)

Nathan, you don't ever have to apologize for commenting! I love comments, even if they're off topic, but yours isn't anyway, IMO. ;-)

I love that song! It would be very interesting to hear it played on the piano. That's not an inconvenience, is it?

Thank you. :-)

Oh, and btw -- did you ever get the links to those items? ;-P

Silk/satin + lace = 8-D

I love #8's hair, too! She's so pretty and elegant. I looove her necklace. *sigh*

Heheheh, red coats are nice. ;-) Especially the runaway kind. ;-P

Yes, a letter for you! *hee* (I manip'd the letter/map into this lady, too, actually. But not the Gainsborough one.)

3 ladies -- ROTFLOL!!!

The Dreamer -- nooo, I haven't!! *runs off to check*
