Reader Poll!
Feb. 7th, 2011 03:02 pmMy muse needs some fresh blood, methinks!
I've been thinking about doing this for a while, and while it's not quite a requests post, I'm interested in hearing what all of my friends and readers would like to see me icon. I've left off a few things I'd love to icon, mainly because I can't find good quality images to work with (e.g., Ever After, Anne of Green Gables/Anne of Avonlea).
I've come up with a short poll listing a few of the things I've contemplated making graphics of, so I'm asking your opinion! Check as many of the boxes as you'd like, or please, feel free to comment and suggest something not mentioned. (Do note I'm not promising to abide by said suggestions...) ;) I'm also willing to do more of topics I've already covered in the past--for example, Master & Commander, or more 18th century art.
And as for the non-period drama titles suggested in the poll, I'm not whole-heartedly opposed to doing a few "modern" batches, if the subject matter is visually inspiring!

Date: 2011-02-08 02:52 am (UTC)I so wanted to like Romola Garai as Emma, but she ran around with her neck and head stuck out like she had a backache, presumably trying to be modern in her mannerisms (I did hear something about the director allowing that, grrr....), she was much too insecure, and aware of her own shortcomings. Emma is borderline snobbish, not "oh yes I know I haven't been anywhere--I'm so uncultured, whaaaa, poor meee!"
And her hats--ugh, her hats. They're just plopped on her head--with the front BRIM part, not the crown, on her head!! She looked like a farm hand.
Then there was how everyone was opening their own doors!! Mr. WOODHOUSE opens doors for himself, and then shuts them? Where are all the servants?! And Emma tidies up her parlor after the guests leave? *headdeskslam*

Date: 2011-02-08 03:06 am (UTC)However, I did like Romola Garai (hey, I can identify with necks sticking out, I have nec problems too, hahahaha!). That's funny about the hats though, that is not something I would even notice. I might have been overly focused on how much I liked her dresses though. :-P
I didn't notice the doors thing either, it hardly stood out. But speaking of Mr. Woodhouse: I loved him.

Date: 2011-02-08 03:40 am (UTC)I still haven't seen Bleak House. It's on my list of things to watch as soon as the copy from the library comes back (I think I'm number 15 on the waiting list). She's a great actress-I do wish she was in more costume dramas too. I just love Mirth!
Ah thank you! I'm working on a batch right now and

Date: 2011-02-08 04:44 am (UTC)On Downton Abbey I loved Anna and Bates, I voted more for them than the other characters. Though Sybil is quite sweet to Gwen and I'm all for women voting, but I fear she may become too much of a feminist for my tastes. I did adore Downton Abbey, but a part of me felt let down by it. I wasn't pleased with a lot that happened in the first 2 episodes.
I think of this when I sit down to watch something, I think of Jesus sitting next to me and watching it with me. Now if stuff I know the Bible says is immoral or makes me blush or awkward because Jesus is sitting next to me, well it will the only time I watch it. Like you've said what is the point of a costume drama if they are taking their costumes off more than they are wearing them.
The thing that disturbs me even more nowadays is how films and tv are constantly using the Lord's name in vain. I feel very sad and angry when people say the d word after God. It's why I like the classics so much. I feel more at ease surrounding myself with them.

Date: 2011-02-09 07:03 am (UTC)Well I think Romola would have been excellent if she'd been allowed to play Emma more like Gwendolen Harleth and less like Bridget Jones. *facepalm*
I love Michael Gambon; he's hilarious! Speaking of which, did you see The Book of Eli?
