A Day of Thanks
That’s right -- I said “Happy Thanksgiving,” not “Happy Turkey-day.” Thanksgiving is about giving thanks, not celebrating the exsistance of large fowl. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing the casual shorthand frequently employed by most people, I am only trying to point out the true meaning of the day which we are celebrating. (Be grateful Halloween is already over -- otherwise you’d hear a lot from me on that subject!)
Thanksgiving is an traditional observance of the day of feast and thanks instituted by our Pilgrim forefathers. Not to be confused with Puritans, these pious individuals started our nation with a godly, wholesome foundation and principles. The only reason this country began in the first place, was for Religious freedom. Like it or not, this is a Christian nation founded on Christian values, by Christian people.
Most people I believe, myself included, tend to get caught up in the details of a successful Thanksgiving; visiting with family members, turkey dinners, the like. Perhaps we all should take more time to reflect on why we even have this day called “Thanksgiving.” Perhaps we should remember the people who began this wonderful tradition, and their reasons for doing so.
Alright, alright -- enough preaching!! What does everyone do for Thanksgiving traditions, other than visit with family and eat turkey?
On a less serious note, don’t you just love the pilgrim women’s dresses?? So cute! Who doesn’t love early Colonial costumes, I’d like to know?
