How bad do you really want that Happy Meal?

"The American Family Association (AFA) launched the boycott yesterday because McDonald's joined the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce several months ago and placed an executive on the group's board of directors, in addition to donating to the chamber."

Are you sure you want to support gay marriage with your money? Because that is what McDonald's is doing with the profits that they make when you purchase their (not very tasty and not at all healthy) food. (and how come we can't have a Straight People Chamber of Commerce??)

No more iced coffees for me! ;-D

Note: I'm posting this for the benefit of those who would be grateful to learn about this boycott. If you're looking for a flame war, argument, or to push your pro-sodomite agenda, then please don't bother to comment. Comments will be screened and deleted if necessary.

(I'm also aware that McDonald's is not the only company guilty of this, so please don't start where-would-it-all-end-how-come-you're-not-boycotting-so-and-so-too. For the record, I still boycott Disney.)

The association asked McDonald's to remove itself from the chamber but the burger-maker declined, leading to the boycott. "We're saying that there are people who support AFA who don't appreciate their dollars from the hamburgers they bought being put into an organization that's going to fight against the values they believe in," Tim Wildmon, the association's president, said yesterday.

After meeting with Wildmon, the corporation refused to withdraw their support for the Chamber. "...In fact, McDonald's strongly told us that they are reaffirming their commitment".

Boycott McDonald's

I for one say Happy Meals are not that great anyway; certainly not enough to keep me from denying the radical and liberals who enjoy forcing homosexuality down our throats my money. They don't care what we think because they think we're insignificant (and I heard an "expert" say as much on the news tonight!) and we keep giving them our money, anyway. I say let's show them!! If they don't want to listen to us, then they don't need to enjoy the music of our money that they dance to all the way to the bank, either.

I was going to post something about this! I will definitely be boycotting! Never really cared for McDonald's anyway, and I hardly eat fast food as it is, so I won't miss it too much. Do you know what other companies (besides Ford and Disney) support gay organizations?

Thanks for informing us. :D

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. Unfortunately, I will also be boycotting, however my boycot has to do with bigotry and closedmindedness. A pity, as I really enjoyed your icons.

Dropping you from my friend's list. I don't tolerate this kind of political crap.

[identity profile] ancientwhispers.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Why is it that people tolerate anything except true Christian beliefs? Oh, what a fallen world we live in!

[identity profile] sabrinafair2.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
I think McDonald's is bad for you anyways just for health reasons. Have you seen Supersize Me? Freaked me out so bad, I didn't touch anything there for like 6 months. As for gay marriage I'm kinda have a weird stance on it or more likely I just haven't made up my mind. I'm definitely against gay hate crimes, etc. it doesn't do any body any good. I'm against gay marriage (definition of marriage is a union between a man and woman, plus its a religious ceremony), but I'm not strictly opposed for them having some sort of a union, just not marriage...

Oh and just curious why are you boycotting Disney?

[identity profile] midenianscholar.livejournal.com 2008-07-06 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I heard about this months ago, I think. I remember Dad talking about it. Personally it hasn't effected me much--they still make really, really good sweet tea, which is all I get there when I can help it. (i.e. when we're not on the run and the siblings want to eat there.) Anyway... I don't have a really deep reason for an opinion on it either way. I guess part of me thinks it'd be more productive to minister to the gays/lesbians than boycott someone for supporting them.

Bravo! Bravo!

Once again you lead the way in some real righteousness.

I know you've got to grin about that...

Anyway, I think what you say in here is just silly. And it is, my the definition bigotry.

I'm all for gay marriage and do believe they are born gay. Scientist are on their way in proofing it (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7456588.stm). But then again your God trumps scientific evidence anyway right?

Also I sometimes hear the argument that marriage is also a religious thing. Then why can atheist get married? My husband and I did, and we are both atheist. It's more of a legal standing in America, and I believe that gays will at some point get the right to marry.

And don't even start with "you hate god!!" I don't think it exists, you cannot hate what doesn't exist. I have plenty of Christian - open minded friends, people in my family are Christian and that's fine by me.

Do you have a list of companies who are known to officially support homosexuality? (As opposed to just have the unofficial "liberal" attitude towards everything ) *curious*

PS
Aha--I knew it was a good idea to talk my parents out of going there the other day ;-) !

I don't normally comment on these sorts of posts, but there's a first time for everything, right?

I'm all for boycotting McDonald's, since their food is disgusting in the first place, but it makes me very sad that this should be your (or anyone's) reason.

I believe that we should be celebrating the fact that two people want to come together in a committed relationship, regardless of their anatomy. I think that gay marriage is worlds better than straight promiscuity. Furthermore, I believe that the government has no business whatsoever deciding what kind of relationship gets privileged. We're talking about the *legal* definition of marriage here, in a country that was founded on the principle of separation of church and state. I don't care in the least whether churches x, y, or z recognize gay marriage. I believe that curtailing someone's civil rights solely on the basis of religious doctrine is fundamentally wrong, particularly when the "sin" in question does not harm anyone else. How can an expression of love and commitment between two consenting adults be harmful?

I have yet to hear a single compelling argument for why homosexuality is wrong. "Because God says so" is not a logical argument. It is only valid if you follow the same doctrine, and the United States encompasses a plurality of religions. "Because God intended sex only for reproduction" falls apart because, as one of my high school biology teachers pointed out, if God created genitals only for the purpose of reproduction, why put so many nerve endings down there?

I realize that you're just being up front about your opinion, and I don't plan to un-friend you (I enjoy your politically neutral posts, and, like you, I can hate the sin but love the sinner), but I did feel compelled to voice my opinion as well.

I'm almost afraid to comment here, because I happen to be one of those people McDonald's "supports" -- and I hope this doesn't result in someone getting nasty with me :( -- but I do agree with boycotting McDonald's. Their food is awful, and if it weren't for their coffee I'd try my hardest to never go back.

Well, basically I wanted to say that I really admire you for being able to post your opinions and beliefs, despite the possibility that someone may not agree, or even flame you for it. I'm far too afraid to do things like this, and I may not agree with what you've said, but I respect your opinion and I admire your ability to stand up for yourself.

I also hope that my admition does not cause me to be unwelcome here; I love your icons and I enjoy reading your public entries. ^^;

I just want to say I read your journal a lot and I have some incredibly different ideas about things. I am not religious and I'm not exactly liberal or conservative. My beliefs are actually a mixture of liberal and conservative views. I don't find very many people like me on earth so I'm used to disagreeing with people on all sides.

I find reading thoughts of people who are drastically different than myself in some ways is a lot more interesting than reading thoughts of people who are incredibly similar. So I do encourage you to express your views. That way I can try to understand your thoughts and I can also continue to enjoy your icons and graphics.

I was thumbing through my friends' friend pages, and came across this post via nuranar's journal. Just wanted to offer my support and thank you (sorta) for reminding me of the McDonalds/boycott thing. "Sorta" because I don't mind a chicken McNugget now and again. ;)

I really don't do much eating at McD, so I'm not sure my "boycott" would help much, but I can probably find better places to nosh at if I do get the urge. :) Sometimes, I feel like many boycotts are futile and aggravating, because there are *so many* places that support things I highly disapprove of. To avoid all of them would be quite a chore. However, I think boycotts that have momentum behind them can be helpful, and send a general message, because of said momentum. (And for anyone who seriously disagrees...I don't mind hearing your opinion, but I don't plan to debate it. I'm just not in the mood!)

Anyway, thanks for the reminder, and howdy. :)

It strikes me as shocking that some of these commenters talk about tolerating all views, yet by their comments they indicate that they are intolerant of the Christian belief to take a stand against certain immoralities. This is what's known as a dichotomy.

Everybody has a belief in something and those beliefs determine what they uphold. There is no such thing as neutrality because of this.

Also, forgive me for not commending you for posting this! *applause* May you be truly blessed for it! "Ye shall know them by their fruit", as it goes. ;-)

I felt I had to say this.

People may not agree with your views.

But, this is your personal journal. You are also your own person and as an individual you have the right to your opinion.

Once again this is your personal journal and you may post whatever you wish here.

If they don't agree or like it, they may leave, they did not have to leave their nasty remarks.

You didn't insult any of them, so they have no need to insult you.
