My uncle avoided my dad for about a day or two (this was at the family reunion) but finally my dad took him out sailing and they had a blast. My dad is a great listener, and has ministered to all sorts of people before. They got along great. It's really sad, though--this uncle was abused as a kid, I think, and has searched his whole life for a deeper meaning (including traveling with Brother Andrew--don't know if you know who he is, but he's a Christian missionary made of multiple levels of Awesome). And he's such a sweet man. It gave me a new understanding and compassion for those sorts of people.
