[personal profile] olde_fashioned
John William Waterhouse, has been one of my absolute favourite artists ever since I learned of his existence. He needs no preamble, and this time around I've gone for a much simpler approach, to better allow the beauty of the original works to do all the talking. ;)

I've preserved the title of the each painting in the URL and file names.

As always, never alter my graphics, comment, credit, and enjoy!

Thank you, June! :D I'm glad you like them!

P.S. No prob! I figured it was something like that. ;)

P.S.S. Your icon--are you watching GoT?

You're welcome! I just got my new charger today! *squeee!*

Yes, I love GOT! ♥

Yaaaaay! :D

I was excited about GoT when I initially heard about it; then I learned it was fantasy, and now I'm concerned about the content. How bad is it?

From: [identity profile] princessjune.livejournal.com
Some of it is bad. I had to stop watching it at first. They put too much emphasis on fantasy. For example, the fantasy theme is on a higher level than LOTR. It's sort of like misportrayal of Scandinavian/Nordic culture which angered me greatly at first. I mostly watch it for the entertainment value.

John William Waterhouse is one of mine and my sister favorite painters!!! His work is simply amazing... so only beautiful icons can come from it.

Lovely! ^^

He *is* amazing! I'd love to get a book on his art, but the ones I've seen have too many black and white photos of the paintings (WHY people do that, I have NO idea).

Thank you!

Hey, how have you been doing?

Oh my gosh. YOU ARE OFFICIALLY MY HERO.

Basically taking all of these and will obviously credit your awesomeness.

Thank you so much- these are breathtaking!

I TOTALLY love John Waterhouse! My friend and I were having a whole discussion about The Lady of Shallot last week too, and I kept having his painting stuck in my head (which I have a print of tucked away somewhere, but not sure where!).

Really? That's funny! It's a fascinating poem, and always makes me think of Anne, haha.

You should find that print and get it framed for the living room!!

wowza! JWW is one of my favorite painters too! His depiction of women is so beautiful! I love your art icons because you always manage to do such a lovely and delicate job with them! Lets see 3 , 4 , 5 (saving this one!) , 13,14,23,28,35 and 43 are fantastic! :D

From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
Yes!! You're exactly right, Val--while making these I was struck (yet again, lol) on how beautiful and feminine his women are. No stick figures for Waterhouse!

And aww, thank you! Art is my first graphic love, so maybe it's just the dork in me coming out when I make them, hehe! (You chose a lot of my favourites!)

*this* I adore the feminine beauty in Waterhouse's paintings. You don't see anything like that these days.

These are lovely! I adore your art icons!

My favorites? So hard to choose! My icon limit is groaning! And of course it's all your fault. I think I will take 21 and 44 but it is so hard to pick only a few! *saves ALL of them*

Thanks for stopping by! :D And where did you get that calender?! I try to get an art themed one every year 2 years previously I had the Arthurian Legends ones (which did have some Waterhouse), until they started repeating too many images. This year I've got Mucha. I'd love a Waterhouse next year! :D

I think I got it at Barnes & Noble, because I had a gift card. ;) I've had the Arthurian Legends one too.

I took 37. That's one of my favorites of his works, other than The Lady of Shallot. Years ago, I had made a bookmark from Lady Claire. There's no telling where it's at now. ;-) I love the style of her hair and the neckline of her dress. That is exactly how I want my dress and hair to look like when I get married...when ever that will be, if ever.

Date: 2011-05-29 09:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] olde-fashioned.livejournal.com
I love that one, as well, but then I love most of his works. I'm pretty partial to Lamia's hair, too!

I'm right there with you in wanting a period wedding; I like so many different eras that I'll just have to let my future husband do the choosing. ;) A medieval themed wedding would be pretty epically awesome, though!!!

From: [identity profile] anodiel.livejournal.com
Haha. I know what you mean. I've recently started a folder on my laptop with ideas. I've been to so many weddings in the past two years that I'm starting to get ideas and being nick picky about the things that brides do for there weddings. But I as do see the different things, I know what I want and what I don't. I'm going to a wedding next month. I may do a post about weddings after that one.

I definitely want that neckline, the flared sleeves, and an empire waist. With my stature being petite and my bust being a bit top heavy, empire waists look good on me. That's what I looked for in a dress for the New Year's Eve Gala I went to at the start of the year.

These icons are absolutely amazing! Some of your best work, for sure! The coloring and blur effects - wow! I've saved 5, 18, 29, and 38, but really like 10, 23, 32, 45, and 46 as well. Lovely, lovely. *claps*
